My DSD bought me a cookbook for making dog treats, so I'd thought I post some of them here.
I haven't tried all of these recipes, but some of them look good enough to eat myself. I also haven't evaluated all these recipes for nutritional value. Use your own judgement if your dog(s) have allergies.
The cookbook says most of the treats that call for refrigeration can be kept for two weeks in the frig. Freeze for longer storage.
Feel free to add your dog treat recipes!

Chunk Chicken and Sweet Potato Treats

1 1/4 c. of 1/2" pieces of cooked chicken
1/2 c. of 1/2" pieces of cooked sweet potato
2 c. of all-purpose whole wheat flour
1 c. evaporated lowfat milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 large eggs

Preheat oven to 350
Mix all the ingredients together well, making sure the pieces of chicken and potato are thoroughly coated
Drop by rounded teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets
Bake 14 to 18 minutes or until golden brown
Remove from oven, let cool thoroughly and store in airtight container in the frig.

Yay! this is a good idea!

This is an awesome treat and great for bait at shows.

Dog Cookie/Bait Training Recipe

o 1 package thawed liver slices (comes in 4 slices and you can either use calf liver or beef liver)

o 3 eggs

o 4 cloves garlic

Blend the above in a blender until liver is completely liquefied

o Stir in 3 cups oatmeal (I prefer Quaker Oats old fashioned)

Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes (I line my baking pan with aluminum foil and coat with cooking spray – then after the cookies are cooled, I peel off the aluminum foil and slice into bite size cookies)

These store well in freezer!

You can also double this recipe by adding the following: instead of 2 packages of liver, use 1 package of liver and either,

o Ground beef

o Ground chicken

o Ground turkey

Just double the rest of the ingredients. It is good to double the recipe for bait training as it cuts down on the overall amount of liver (too much liver in one meal can cause diaahrea.

Your Dogs will LOVE YOU

for this healthy homemade treat!
Be prepared to smell it ALL day!

Thanks for participating!
Here's another one:

4 c. quick oats
1 c. minced or shredded chicken livers
1/4 c. vegetable oil
4 large eggs

Preheat oven to 350
Mix together all ingredients, making sure that the oats are well coated with oil and eggs
Drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheet
Bake 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown
Remove from oven, cool completely and store in airtight container in the frig.

This one requires alot of baking, but I might just try it in the food dehydrator.

Turkey Jerky

1 pound of ground raw turkey
1 tbsp. light or low fat italian salad dressing

Preheat oven to 200 degrees
In a blender or food processor, puree together the turkey and dressing. You can add a little water in the blender to keep the mixture moving in the blender if necessary.

Puree until the mixture is a thick paste.

Spread the mixture over the bottom of a greased cookie sheet.

Bake for 2 hours with the oven door slightly open so moisture can escape.

Remove from oven, flip the jerky over and cut into 1 inch squares.

Return the squares on the cookie sheet to the oven and bake for 1 to 2 hours more or until the treats are dry and leathery.

Remove from oven, let cool thoroughly, and store in airtight container in the frig.
