As many of you know, I live fairly close to the exotic animal sanctuary that was featured about a year ago on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. After a long fight with the County, they were finally able to open to the public over the summer. Ken took me out to breakfast and then surprized me by taking me there!!!

Forever Wild is a santuary for exotic animals, mostly cats. These animals have been rescued after being abandoned or confiscated, many of them have been mutilated by people trying to declaw them. When a house cat is declawed, their body weight is insufficient to cause permanent damage. However, when a large cat is declawed, they get arthritis and large bone spurs and wind up walking on their elbows.

Forever Wild has volunteer vets that come in and rebuild the bones in these cats so they are able to walk around again normally. I just want to start crying right now for the wonderful work that these people do.

See what I saw today:

And here is Norman, a deer that was infected with stick fleas...

Now as if this isn't good enough, they had a bunch of horses and llamas that had been abandoned. They had been looking for people to adopt them. Soooo, tomorrow we are going back to pick up two 8 year old Mustange/HQ mixes:

It is VERY good to me!!!!!

How wonderful! I love that there's a safe and happy place for these beautiful animals to go after having rough beginnings to their lives. Such gorgeous cats, and they all look so content!

Congratulations on your decision to adopt the horses, too! Let us know when they've arrived safely!
