Ivory is my temporary "house-chick", whom is an "only child" and lives in her own brooder box. She is 53 days old as of today and came from our Splash Cochin rooster and our Buff Orpington hen. Yes, she is really underdeveloped at her age and should have all feathers right now, but she started off as a really slow-developer until I started feeding her higher-protein feed, cooked eggs, etc. Now she's growing so fast! She's growing out a tai and feathers are sprouting everywhere! But not only has her feathers been developing better, but now so is her comb.

It started off small and I believed she was a pullet, but now that she's developing right, her comb has gotten much bigger than before.

It isn't turning red yet, though.

What do you think? I really really really REALLY hope she's not a rooster! We already have 3 roosters sharing 2 coops (luckily the 2 that share a coop grew up together and get along well).

I hope I'm wrong about my suspicions of her being a rooster...

Please comment on why you voted for what...like if you voted to "Rooster", then why did you vote for that???

It's really hard to say... I saw youar other post with the growth progression and I think that the stunted growth is going to make this hard to tell... I've had 4 week old chicks with combs bigger than that, so for that reason, it's possible that it's a girl. But back to the slow growth, the comb could be just as slow at growing as the rest is... keep the pic updates coming!

I agree. Her fitful development makes it harder to make an accurate guess.
