I wanted to post the link to this incubator kit that I found on Ebay. I think these are the folks who have the IncuCube and I know there was some discussion about it not being the most satisfactory bator. I went ahead and bought this kit because I need a backup bator to my Rcom Suro King.

I got a large styrofoam shipper from work that is 24"X15"X15" and has 2 1/2" thick walls, plugged this puppy into it on the side and have an instant incubator!! I bought the lower wattage incukit...they offer 2 wattages...and it holds the temp absolutely steady so far. After I get the glass on the top and the egg turner completed I'll post pics of it.

So far, I can recommend it!!

Hmm, I wonder how that would work if I took out the guts of my LG and installed that?

Interesting, but at 45 bills, aren't you going to be pretty close to the cost of a full-blown store-bought incubator by the time you add the glass and turner? Just saying.

I guess it could be worth it, if the unit is better than the ones that come in the LG, which is entirely possible. Please let us know.

Most of us have an old picture frame laying around with an 8X10 glass in it....I know I have about 30!! I have made homemade bators before and I always cut the hole and put a piece of glass on the top and bottom of the lid to keep from losing heat. Sort of a "thermopane" window. You can buy a frame for $1 at the dollar store.

The total cost of this incubator will only be the cost of the incukit. Styro shipper was free, glass I already have, making a turner with a plastic egg hold that I already had, but you can also use cartons and make something that just tilts the eggs side to side.

Although I love the autoturner on my Rcom Suro King, I have had tons of great hatches from my old Miss Prissy bator and turned the eggs by keeping them in cartons and turning the carton on about a 45 degree angle 3-4 times a day.

I can tell you that for me, the hot water heater thermostat was almost impossible to adjust and the actual air temp would swing between 97 and 103 ALWAYS. The water wiggler temp stayed 99-100.5 and the hatches were great...except for the times when it would spike waaaaay up for some unknown reason. That's why I saved my $$ and bought the Rcom. Best decision I ever made.

I'm thinking that, besides a backup, I might want to make this one into a hatcher because of the space constraints of the Rcom.

Today is the third day that the bator has been completed and running. The temp has varied from 99.7 - 100.3 .......just where I like it! I consider that rock stable, especially for a homemade bator.

I am receiving shipped eggs today and have a tons of my own to put in it at the same time. I'll take pics and post when I get it loaded. So far this thing rocks...
