I candle once around 7 days, and then again on day 18 as I am placing them in lockdown. Then I know which are duds, and I weed them out. You have to be careful cause candling is addictive. I killed several complete batches of eggs because I couldn't stay out of the bators. Then, I finally made a deal with myself to only candle twice at the 7 and 18 day marks, and what do you know, I had my two best hatch rates ever! I was so happy! The batch I have in now has been in since the 3rd, but I won't candle them just yet. I'm in no rush, I want them to hatch! And they're my own eggs, so I know most, if not all, are cooking nicely in there. I'll candle in a few days, and then again at lockdown. I now just watch the calendar and mark off the days as they pass. Surprisingly the last few days since I set this batch have passed pretty quickly. However I have LOTS of cute fuzz butts to tend to in the meantime...

Hello! Unfortunately, these guys are not the meat quail. Your best bet would be coturnix quail for meaties. I have a few coturnix breeders, but they have not been reliable layers. They're usually excellent layers though.
