OH!! I'll bid $5 - I've got a total addiction to Bantam cochins right now.....

I'll also put up a post for my daughter's project birds. She has been working on creating a Marans sexlink, and she thinks it might be working. The chicks that hatch out are soooooooo pretty, and sooooo sweet. There is a fairly good chance that the black ones that hatch out can be sexed at hatching. She needs to hatch more of these out though so she can keep better records. I just don't have the space anymore to keep them! So far she has hatched out 3 and has 5 more in the bator set to hatch in 2 days. Her rooster is a Silver Cuckoo Marans, Here is his picture:

This is my older DD hugging and holding him just this afternoon. His name is Mystery:

And here are some of his ladies as they watched my younger DD getting food for them:

And here are some pics of the chicks:

This is Rose, the only yellow chick so far. She has blue eyes, pink beak and comb, and pinkish green legs:

This is one of the black chicks. Mother, we are fairly certain, is a SLW. This baby is feathering in AMAZING!!! Comb is straight, eyes are blue. We are fairly certain that of the two black chicks that hatched in this batch, this is the male, and the female came out solid black. The female is getting in either a pea comb or a rose comb. This little one is healthy and hearty, and BIG!

Here are the two chicks together. The little black one is on the right. She has black legs, gray eyes, and either a rose or pea comb coming in:

The hens are SLW, BA, Welsummer/Ameracauna mix, and ASL. My SLW's have nice rose combs and yellow legs. My Welsummer/Ameracauna mixes have green legs. One has a straight comb, one has a pea comb. My BA has black legs and yellow eyes. Not sure, but I thought BA's had brown eyes? Anyway, she's my biggest hen. Solid black. My ASL are Amber Sexlinks, a combination of RIR roo over White Leghorn hen. One girl was red as a chick and grew up to be a red hen, the other girl was yellow as a chick and grew up to be red and white. Her coloring is actually my favorite after the SLW's.

According to the genetics calculator that I've been researching, Crossing a Cuckoo over any of the hens I have should give me only barred chicks. So it was a BIG surprise when Rose hatched out yellow, and then Monico (SLW/CM crossed chick), and Ellie the black chick hatched. But with such a small test group, we can't be sure we'll get Sexlinks. Sexlinks ARE possible and we're working on seeing if the Silver gene in the Cuckoo line will make them. Unfortunately the genetics calculator doesn't have Silver Cuckoo on it, only Golden. When I get some Golden, I'll try with them too. Of the 5 eggs that I have in my bator right now, I expect all to be black, though I would be pleasantly surprised if I got another fuzzy yellow chick. So, if anyone is interested in being a sort of test subject for my DD, we'd really appreciate it. So we'll set 6+ eggs for $3, shipping $7.50. I get some nice big eggs, and the chicks will grow up to be nice layers, not to mention that they could also lay dark eggs. I really hope that my little Rose will lay dark eggs. That would surprise everyone! Feel free to inquire if you have questions, or are more knowledgeable than me with genetics.

Monkey, if you get a few more of red sex links, I would take them (well if they were cheap enough for me). I only have a few spaces in my bator right now, so I cant get alot at the moment.

The weather is getting warmer and the hens are starting to go broody-
I can offer 6+ Large fowl Black Java eggs to be shipped Weds May 25, 2010 via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery confirmation (6 is definite, maybe closer to 12 but I can't gaurantee it). Black Javas are a slow growing heritage breed that are good layers of a large brown egg. My girls don't match the RIR, but are more consistent than the rest of my hens (Brahmas, Americanas) The roosters grow to a good butchering size at 5-6 months of age. If given the chance to range, they consume less feed also. All of my birds are from the Garfield Farm Musuem lines and will occasionally produce auburn colored or white chicks. My blacks do not have any white feathers and have black legs with yellow feet.

My roo has frostbite damage to his comb, but they should have a single comb.

Eggs start at $5 reserve and $15 shipping. Thanks for looking. PM or email if you have questions!

Another idea-
6+ Guinea fowl eggs-

I have 5 birds (girls are pearl, lavender and slate, boys are pearl and lavender). They run together so keets are usually pearl, lavender, and slate. The eggs can be shipped tomorrow May 24, 2010 via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. The hens lay 2-3 eggs per day, and I have more saved- I will send the freshest (Fri?/Sat/Sun/Mon), but more available if you want to try a day or two older.

These guys are beautiful, healthy, hardy birds, great foragers, and my roosters tend to be wonderful with their girls and respectful to their owners! They are all breeder stock. Prefer funded paypal.
