Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have 10 Blue Wheaton Ameraucanas and I am new to this coloring. One day I think they are one color or sex and the next I think they are another. Since we were discussing a mostly white splash...I know time will tell...These photos are of a bird that is almost white and I am pretty darned sure is a pullet, but is it just a poorly colored splash or what??? The chick is almost 8 weeks old. It has the bluest legs out of all the birds. The breeder says he has Blue Wheaton over Wheaton and Blue Wheaton, so it could be anything??? Sorry pics are so big. Not sure how to reduce from PhotoBucket.

Any dark spots on this chicken are poo! It was suggested that I cull it, and I really don't have a problem with that, just don't want to be tossing a diamond in the rough. Any comments?

I know about the genetics, I just wasn't sure what the coloration variances were. I have some that I can't tell if they are wheaton or blue wheaton or splash roos for that matter!

By that age I think all the boys would have some dark color in their back. The wheaten boys are much darker than the BW ones- even early on.

...pic really had nothing to do with it, Flopsy just wanted to show everyone his/her bum...

Thank you Happy Mtn. He really is awfully handsome. Looks like he may have a bit of a "strong presence" also. How old was he when he began to get the color in his wings, neck and hackles? I have what is supposed to be a splash wheaten rooster at what I'm guessing is about 14 ish weeks, but he is still just about all white right now. I'm beginning to wonder.....

Do you have a pic? I didn't have him as a baby, btu when I got him he wasn't yet crowing.

Here he is with two pullets who I bought believing them to be his sisters. If they are his sisters, then he pretty much has to be a splash wheaten rooster, right? I mean, assuming that the birds are pure Ameraucanas as was stated? He's pretty white. That color on his chest is pretty much it. there is a tad bit more on his head, but you really have to look hard for it.

Wow! That's a crazy lookin bird! I don't think he's splash wheaten, but like I said- never saw one that age. I'll be interested to see what others think.

OK I figured out how to make the photos from PhotoBucket a bit smaller. I can figure out most of the sexes (I think?), but still confused re: color. I counted back and these birds are almost 8 weeks, not 9 like I previously (erroneously) thought! Don't mind the Wyandotte!
