Love that story CindyB! Thank you for sharing. I too raised my children with the knowledge that they were the ones that needed to make their own choices when it came to spiritual beliefs.

That is what I am doing for my 6 year old DD since she does go to a Christian school which the public schools are so lacking in our area...structure, socialization coping skills and self disclipine and she thrived on the challenges that Christian school had given her and she excelled it. Even I do not preach into her that my theory is better than hers, but her and her decision only. If she does not believe in it and still wants to continue school then I would step in and guide her in tolerance and be respectful in others that wants to believe. I rather let her make her own decisions when she is ready or at a certain age, around middle age that she will go back to the public school. (if we can no longer afford the private $ for her education).
As in death, I don't worry about it. What I worry is what would happen to my husband and my daughter which it certainly beyond my control. Would they be taken care of? How would they do without me since I do most of the housework and laundry at home? I am sure both of them would figure it out how to turn on the washer and dryer LOL! Somehow, somewhere, all of us managed to survive it.
In the event of death, I find it reassuring to find the light and the warmth as I departed. I do not like pain either but if the brain can override the pain sensors that we are uncoucious, then it would not be so bad after all. Brain is a very complex organ, it could not be reproduced or transplanted.
Rusty, I love the quote of bug juice and wasted nutrients LOL! Why pollute the soil with that stuff!
As for Melissa's question about the soul......I believe there is something inside of us, some kind of innate thing going on. If I die, if there is a soul, it dies too. All living things must die eventually but it is our seeds or descedents that lives on. The cycles does not stop until the Earth is blown to bits. Birth, grow, mate, raise offsprings and then die, are part of the cycle. There are no shortcuts in cycles.
What is soul? Everyone has their own interpretation of soul. I have to read up more on it. They say spirits and souls are the same thing. So off I go surfing the net for more definations.
I am sorry to see the "Christian" thread locked and sincerely hope that does not ever happen here. Hopefully the Mods WILL reopen it and hopefully we can all get along. We've managed it for quite awhile and I truly hope that camaraderie can continue on all 3 threads.
I hope so but you will get a few that wants to debate religion vs non religion. It can be sticky at times. I've read thru most of them and alot of them do have their points, their interpretation in what they view the Bible and so forth.
But to go against the grain of the believers, stirring up the hornet's nest, is asking for trouble. It is ok to express opinions and beliefs but do not get into "my religion is better than yours" kind of attitude. It would shut the threads down FAST! There are a few things that pulled my teeth but I respect them for believing it and therefore I do not HAVE to tell them they are wrong or no, my interpretation is this. There is no right or wrong about it.
Hopefully in due time, the religion thread will open back up when everyone got a cool head.

It will be reopened or all of them closed, IMO. Personally, I'd rather none be allowed, but it's not that way at the moment. The thread was "invaded" by folks intent on debate, apparently, who were best suited to the other two. We have asked everyone to stay in their own threads where they are more comfortable. If they would do that, we'd have little issue. Going back to my own planet now and leaving you with Terrie's warning at the end of the thread she closed for cleanup:
I don't know what happened but I suppose there was a good reason to lock it. It's a pity and I hope that it is unlocked or replaced by a new one soon. BYC is a rare forum in offering religious subject threads that allow discussions across many creeds. I hope also that the closing of that thread doesn't lead to lobbying to close others.
