VILLAGE IN THE SHIRES
For everyone who has been following my thread at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=363063 I can now announce that I am the proud 2nd mummy of 4 new baby runner ducklings!
In case you cannot tell, I am very very excited

I am so glad we got 4 different colours - Anyone want to guess them? The only ones I am pretty sure about are the black one with white bib, and the white one with a lavender stripe. The other two could be lavender with white bib, and a blue. I cannot be sure and know nothing of genetics (I know the parents colours). Suggestions welcome!

I will try and post one pic but not sure how to do it. If it works, then I will post more. If not, I might need some help!

OK, didn't work. will try again

thanks crj.

I just noticed in the last pic, the black one looks like it has no face! lol. Must have moved its head while the photo was taken.

They are all much better looking now they have dried off and gone fluffybummed!

I going to try my hand at vent-sexing them tomorrow, but I might not be any good at it. I've watched the Metzer video on youtube so will give it a try.

I haven't watched the Metzer video yet (will as soon as I post here though) but I want to warn you to be careful. I got 5 ducklings from them and one of them died at about 3 days old. She had bloody waste which we (Metzers and me that is) assume was from an injury done during vent sexing and THEY are experts. Just understand it happens and be cautious.

I was very very sad she died. She was one of two Welsh Harlequins I had been anxiously awaiting arrival of. Good luck!

Thanks T Hi and Mrslb and Sianara.

I did try vent sexing, but to tell you the truth I just didn't have the guts to do it for long enough for anything to pop out! Either that or I have 4 girls! I will just have to be patient and wait for the quacks/curly tails.

I do hope we can keep them all. Ideally I would like 3 girls and a boy, or even 4 girls, but time will tell. It will be heartbreaking to rehome any of them - we have only had them a day and the whole family is completely in love with them.

Updated pics for day 2 coming shortly!
