From your Avatar picture, it looks like you have some beautiful BLRW Bantams! I'm new to the BLRW's so feedback is appreciated! I will probably be posting pictures of all my roosters later to ask experienced BLRW breeders their opinion on which roosters to keep for breeding.

My problem is that i want to keep them all. They are so pretty and i like all the shades

But i need to buy a farm to do that
barnie.gif

I spent 1 yr and 1/2 getting a flock together of the blrw Bantams from a quality breeder, and now i am either going to sell them if i find the right home for them, or send the rooster to auction and just keep the girls as pets.
I should have waited til we had more room

Yeah today was cool only 100.6. Last week or so we had a 113 degree day. JUSt LoVLEY Well I do have them in shade and provide a foot bath water basin for them. If they can keep their feet cooled it helps. Also I wet a few spots in their yard which is only 10 feet by twelve and they snooze in the dampened areas in the hotest part of the day. They are only 2 1/2 months old and surviving OK just like the rest of us desert peeps.

The last messages are confusing ? Did a bobcat kill you Blue W rooster ? I am so sorry if that is the case. It is sad to loose a bird to prey.

I'll bet most of the BYCers will tell you the same!! Seriously, I have chickens from 1 year to 2 wks old crammed in every available space, plus I have Ameraucana hatching eggs coming in the mail as we speak~ my 5th time incubating this year!! I am trying to cull/sell enough of my chickens to have 2 breeding families of BLRW's and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I hope to get my husband to build me a larger chicken house next year!

I hope you get to keep a few of your chickens as pets!

Thanks..... I will be keeping all of them....... but i already had one rooster, and the wyandotte flock has a rooster

so i really just dont like there being 2 roosters. I have a rooster guy, and i am about to call him to take all the boys.
I just hate to send the blrw bantam roo packin because he is sooooo perfect. It would have been nice to find a good home that would appreciate him and his girls. Its alot of work when you try to utilize all your space like that.......i miss having one flock.
I have a bantam barred rock rooster, a big barred rock rooster, a cute mini blue OEGB rooster, a silkie rooster who i will keep, and the Bantam BLRW rooster. So when he comes to get all the rooster hatchlings from this year, i will send him off

Sounds like you know what i mean too, you want them all, but then it adds up to ALOT real fast

A bob cat killed my Blue Wyandotte rooster the first of the year and I hatched out some eggs right away from him but only got a Black rooster (turns out he is BWxSLW cross) when I need a blue rooster! I have so many chickens right now that I think I am going to sell my Blue Wyandotte hens and just focus on my BLRW's and the Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas (I have Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs coming in the mail) since I have limited space!
Yikes! 113 degrees!!

We are supposed to hit 99 by Saturday . . yuck! Sounds like your doing a good job keeping your girls cool! I have a mister in the pen, wet down their yard a couple times a day and have a fan in the chicken house going all the time!

My new fuzzies!!!

3 SLW and 2 BLRW. The one in the back right with the mask I think is a buttercup (surprise mystery chick) and the black fuzzy thing in the way way back is a black turken. I'll post pics of my GLW chicks (pretty sure 1 boy and 1 girl) tomorrow.

Rainierlass,
Pretty cute bunch you have there. I bet they loved free-ranging! Ours have been 'free-ranging' (read backyard-ranging) since about 4 wks old and they do love it.

Our bunch (including a SLW & GLW) are 16.5wks now. We're crossing our fingers for eggs soon. Heard the Wyandottes start to lay earlier than most breeds.

Question to all: When did your Wyandotte puller start to lay?
