thanks CLady! I will file your advice and use if things escalate. Right now I only have the one who is wheezing. She's in the house and I'm not seeing any other signs of anyone else sick. I gave her teramycin last night in her water and she's happily eating and wheezing today. The wheezing is happening intermittantly. She's bright and alert so maybe we'll get lucky.

I'm sorry that you have so many sick and I can't wait for the lab report that gives you more data. Crossing fingers for you, that they have news that helps.

On a silly but unrelated note, I helped my man fill out the show form for his BLRW and had him mark them as blue laced. When we got there the vet mentioned that it's nice to see so many great AOV chickens... ooops. Maybe I can buy him an elephant ear to make it up to him.

I hope you have a great time at the fair !
And I also want to tell you all that the doc has started cultures, had to go off campus, will return to finish the necropsy as the bird is frozen internally and she will call when it is done or may need further testing.
Had I known we would end up driving instead of Fed Ex I would not have froze the bird as she had me do cuz we thought we were fedexing...but missed the fed ex guy who drives through town once a day for pick ups...so anyway we drove with the frozen bird.
It may be that freezing destroyed cells the doc needs to see although she did tell me to freeze it...if so, we may have more tests need to be done.
It is scarey that cases of this are popping up all over the state...wild birds is my only guess.

I ordered Tylosan from Jeffers.com (in Alabama) 2 days ago and it just arrived !
They are so super efficient !
This was regular US Mail, not overnight UPS...any way it is used to treat Chronic Respiratory Diseases and airscaulitis (pnuemonia to us humans) that icky gurling sound in the bird...so I mixed that right up, added a spoonful of sugar cuz the stuff smells like old dead toefungus ewwwwww!!

And hopefully it helps.
Hard to find, not 1 feedstore I called had this stuff.
Comes as a powder in a plastic bottle, exactly 1 cup, costs $44.95 + shipping was $6 got here in 2 days...and stinks, is very hard to mix, add 1 TEASPOON to 1 gallon of water or the entire cup makes 50 gallons

...it says to treat for 3 days.
Stinks to high heaven, I added a spoonful of sugar cuz it has gotta taste like ca ca. Ewww!!!!!

Stanky, but who knows, maybe chickens LOVE that smell !

OK, so now this should help the airscaulitis...and still we waite on the doc.
Took DH to the dentist yesterday to pull a molar that he has been fighting a peridontal pocket down in the bone for 2 years of trying to irrigate and the bacteria keeps coming back (I warned him...with all my years of Oral surgery you would think he would listen) so pulled it yesterday so I have him whining, sore and wanting petting pampering and CHICKEN soup.....I guess through all this we still need to smile and look to the future no matter how absurd it may sound...if I loose all these marans, that means I can hatch 50 more, right ????

Thank you for all the information. Ran into town and picked up a few items. I am sorry all your days are running into one another and you have so many down things in your life going on. sounds like you need a hug.....

I hope things look up soon. I will continue to give updates on my hen...I just don't know.

I have the powder but dont use it like the tylan 50 injectable. When I inject it seem to work within 12 hours. I hit them 2xs a day. I love the stuff. got it at dels for like 15.00. I got the powder on line for like 45 or 50. OUCH! hope it works for you. Good luck. This respitory thing has hit everything I own. I swear. I caught it in time. I pulled the sick ones and gave them the injections and the rest all got the powder. All is well now.

Sometimes it can be a chore to find things to smile about. But you gotta keep on plugging away, and find every little thing you can to smile over. Things will get better! Just give it time.

I bought a bottle of Tylan 250 at the Co-Op for line $45. I think it was 250ML or so. It's a big bottle. Here's a lesson I learned that I thought might be helpful. First, depending on how many birds one has, you might want to get a smaller bottle and always check the Expiration Date. My bottle has expired and I've only used about half of it. Also, I prefer the injectible too because I can treat and quarantine selected birds without worrying about other birds getting into the feed or water.

God Bless,

You are so very right !
I am after the injectible now.
Sick birds do not want to eat or drink either, and honestly it is easier to grab a bird and give it a shot (you also have the peace of mind knowing it has the meds in it) than worrying that it has eaten or drank enough or even any of the water with the meds in it.
I am going to hunt down tylosan injectible now, you too Monicas!!!

Well my little hen died. I guess I should have waited to go and spend the extra $50 I just went and got of goodies for her to try and help her feel better. I do not know if DH will allow a necropsy as they are around $50 and we have spent quite a bit at this time. But she is gone. I can't say I didn't try everything.

I now have a bag of cocid that has 1/8 tsp missing, other than that I just opened it. Can anyone use it? I will never use it. I think the poultry electrolyte stuff I will keep just in case.

PM me if you could use the Cocid. Better used then sitting in my cupboard going stale.
