My BCM pullet is one sick little girl...any input or advise would be greatly appreciated. Edited in a picture.
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Black Copper Marans, under 3 months, haven't weighed her...probably around 2 to 3 lbs
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Her eyes are swollen shut, her wattles and comb are swollen, in between the wattles is swollen, she has foamy saliva, no distinctive odor, a gurgling in her breathing
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
Just noticed 2 nights ago that she was "off". Her wattles were a bit swollen, but both eyes were open. While I was making a commotion with feeding and talking to the chickens, she didn't react. Just stood under the light. I whistled really loud...every chicken stopped and stared at me, she didn't do a thing...which prompted a closer inspection. She is in a large brooder with about 25 other pullets and cockerels.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
Not one. I couldn't tell if any of them had raspy/gurgly breathing. I will go check them out and report back.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
Nothing broken/bleeding...no signs of physical trauma.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
My thinking is we may have tracked something into her brooder from outside, or from a friend's farm as we just picked up 2 new pullets.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She has been drinking water...we started her on antibiotics in her water that first night (Duramycin).
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Her poop looks like ground up watery spinach. Deep green.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
We separated her from the flock, I have given her water with antibiotics (Duramycin), yogurt mixed with a little feed...she can't see to eat, so I'm going to rub her beak through it.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I would like to treat her myself first. My vet gave me a number for a farm/livestock vet this morning. If I can't identify/pinpoint what she has, I'll call him.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
