When I was trying to decide on a breed to use for our DP flock Speckled Sussex was high on my list, not the least of the reasons for which was the chipmunky appearance of the chicks. I LOVE chipmunky chicks.

Jen, what are you raising these babies for? DP, egg layers, just for giggles?? I would imagine you're not going to keep all of these little darlings, are you? I could definitely take a few off your hands if you'd like! Have you tried sexing them yet?? they are precious!!

I really enjoy this breed, yet they are soooo hard to find half the time. (expcially quality ones!) I seperated one of my Roo's from the rest of the flock and collected eggs and then swapped Roo's and I'm collecting for the next hatch from this roo. I've got to get some colored bands (or colored zipties) to keep track of who came from which line. I'm hoping to pick some new lines up from a guy in Indiana next weekend while I'm at a rabbit show down that way.

I wanted to hatch them out early because I don't want the same thing to happen to me again where they're hitting laying age in November! This is the first of many hatches I plan for this year. A friend of mine who shows rabbits is a judge for the APA and informed me that the national show for chickens is litterally right across the road from where the national convention for rabbits is this year in Indianapolis,IN in the fall!!! SOOOOOO excited!!! I'm going to plan on offering transport back and forth to this if anyone is looking for out-of-state birds that are having a hard time getting them to michigan...but that's not until October-ish.

I'm planning on offering some of them for sale in the very near future. I haven't tried sexing them yet...still reading up on the many ways and trying to figure out which way I want to try. Vicki, I think you need to come over and help me play with some chicky butts lol.

You can get those hens for your neighbor while you're here! Cricket are you any good at sexing? If you're good at it I'd be interested in working out a deal with you for sexing them for me! I don't really care for raising up a bunch of cockrels! (although I hope these are all pullets lol...fat chance right!)

I might want some too. Not sure. Found out we have way too many roos. BR, isas, etc. I need to get these off my hands!! I know I won't be able to, but once I do that I will definitely need more females!

Started my new crochet project. I was planning on waiting but I couldn't! Crocheting helps with pain control. It's going along really nicely. My daughter has already said she wants it. Last time I made her one she was 10 and it's pretty small. I was going to add to it but this one will be perfect for her. Once again, thank you Laura, your gift fits in perfectly!!

Morning everyone,
I when out to feed the chickens this morning and I found Jr one of my sweet Dominique Roos dead. He was shaking a little yesterday but I thought nothing of it cause a gust of wind have just breezed in through the Chicken door that he was standing in front of. It look like he just died in his sleep early this morning. This is the second roo I have lost this year both were under a year old and come from the same person and both died in the night. Also I last week I relized that a hen that I got from the same person has a (gray) blind eye. Be side the blindness she acts normall could this be Marek's or am I over reacting?

Ruff Morning

Keyt,

I seriously wouldn't worry about your chickens. This is my first year with my chickens and I worried and worried. Then i had a water main break in my backyard. I had to move my coop to the garage (to hide em

) and with it the chickens. They have forsaken the cook to roost as they will on my workbench (sigh which is now covered in crap). Even when we had the cold snap, they didn't want to get in the coop. But they are no worse for wear.

I have RIR and BR.

I'm wondering, how many people live near East Jordan/Boyne City? I'm thinking about spending the summer up there at the family farm and was wondering about other chicken people in the area.
