Went to the Emergencies, Diseases... Thread and they helped me find some helpful info. It isn't LL or Marek but I do not know what it was, and may never know.

Water Pixie, sorry to hear about your bird. Sometimes even with the best of care birds die so you should beat yourself up over it. I once had an old man, even older than me, tell me that if you are going to raise chickens plan on losing birds. He was right. I have lost birds for reasons I have never understood. If a bird gets sick I isolate it from the rest of the flock, giving it antibiotics and electrolytes and keep my fingers crossed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's just part of chicken raising.

Hello all, I want to purchase some eggs to hatch to try and start hatching, need some advice ,I dont want to spend big bucks on my first eggs to hatch because lets face it first time I am sure to make some mistakes.
But I am a sucker and anything I raise from a baby Ill probably have forever, think I should just get some hatchery eggs? I would hate to get some nice eggs from someone working on there line then kill them with my inexperience ...
Agree?

Jen, I've tried vent sexing a few times. I believe it was about 70% at least. It's pretty scary though bc of the position and way you have to handle the baby. Then the poor chirping and screaming when you're opening their vents is so pathetic lol. I would imagine they're too old to feather sex?
