My Speckled Sussex, Suzy, has a sour, impacted crop. I have done all kinds of research on here and on-line trying to rectify the situation without posting another sour crop "emergency" . Mostly I'm seeing to feed her olive oil, massage her crop and either try to get it to break up and go "down" or massage it upward. Most posts say turn her upside down. However, one said not to as she believes she killed her chicken this way. So my question is....What is upside down? Simply leaving her on her feet but dropping her beak into the sink? Flipping her over so her feet are in the air? Or sorta having my husband hold her by her feet in midair while I massage her crop stuff toward her beak which would be pointed down toward the floor?
She has been this way since Friday night. I was leaving her in the coop but giving her oil and massaging her crop while outside. During the day she ate a little and drank alittle while with the flock. Today I brought her inside, massaged her crop with about 5 cc's of olive oil and withheld food, but offered water. This evening her crop seems not as hard, but her breath smells a bit worse. She is quiet but doesn't seem to be too much distress. Her face & wattles are still bright red. SHe had one piece of dark poo stuck to her foot but I don't seen anymore.
I'm out of ideas and stressed out. Can someone please help!!!??
Thanks, KimberlyJ
