those LOVERLY marans....glad to hear that your broody stayed for 3 days....Henrietta is a FANTASTIC broody....even in this 100 degree heat in her coop....we took a fan out there today and had it running on low until we could get the temp down to 90.....won't have to mess with that any longer - what we won't do for our gals!

Nancy, I've had hen stick with eggs for 4 days after the first chick hatched. She may have stayed longer but I took the remaining egg away from her.

That's also good to hear Sam - She has I think 5 more eggs....and for as diligent as she has been covering those eggs, I'm hoping they all hatch! I'll get pics w/in the next day or so - off to a wedding tomorrow out of town so we'll be hustling in the morning.
Sam, give our best to Grannie and trust she is doing well!

Anyone on the Michigan thread have a bantam buff orpington for sale? A person that has bought Orps from me in the past called today to ask me if I had any or knew anyone who did. He lives somewhere downstate...forget where. I don't think he wants to hatch out eggs or ship chickens. He would probably be interested in any color bantam Orp...he just mentioned the buff to me. I told him I'd ask around.

For all that's good and holy.....

Now Blueberry is broody. She's been sitting in the nest box all day and I've kicked her butt off twice and she runs back like her tail is on fire.

Blanche is now resting comfortably in the brooder pen's nest box. We are going to sneak the chicks in later tonight. Wish us luck!

Hecks yeah I would! I hope they still have it and I can sucker the neighbor into helping me get it! LOL. I want to seperate my silkies from the others. I have some good looking silkies, and would like to breed them just for the fun of it. Not for showing or nothing, but cuz WHO DOESN'T LIKE a silkie?

The mealworms are in the wild bird feed isle. I never saw them before this week, so don't know if its going to be carried all the time. I hope it is. It is a much better price than TSC.

Looks like my cucumber plants are finally giving up the ghost... Picked the last 7 tonight... Only 3 of them were shaped right! LOL. The beans are just about done too. I think I will leave the last of them to dry out so I can plant next year. I still have green tomatoes and peppers coming in yet. Watermelons and cantaloupe are just about finished too. The last few are ripening, and the vines are dying... A bit earlier than last year, but this years yield seemed to be a lot lower than last year for me. But atleast not a total failure. Going to rotate where I put things next year thou. Start a few weeks earlier... Need someone to come and cut down trees in my back yard so I can plant more. Its a learning experience thou. City girl turned farmer...

I wish I could turn more of my front yard into growing area.. BUT, its my drain field...

Well, Everyone have a nice evening. Its supposed to thunderstorm again... I found that I still have a small leak in the roof of my coop... I don't know what I did wrong... but its leaking at a nail point, not a seam... SO I am thinking maybe I will throw another layer of shingles on... It'll only be another 20... but, hey, I don't need a leaky roof. Its not getting anything damp... just the wood around that one spot... so maybe I will just find someone with left over shingles and refoof that one side... I'd love to be able to put a corragated roof... but, cant afford to buy a saw to cut it to size the way I need it to go... Oh well...

Good Evening Everyone,
Got questions. My little OE Bantam that was going broody last weekend still hasn't laid. When will she start again, should I be concerned? I broke her of the broodiness or at least I think I have. A couple times on lock down I did find her in a box & put her up on the roost. Come dawn she was still roosting. This afternoon about 4 when I let them out to free range I noticed she wasn't out. Back to the coop I go and there she is sitting on someone else's egg. I took the egg & took her out to mingle with the rest. She was out the entire evening forging around. Tonight at lock down to she was back in a box. So up on the roost she goes. When I went to pick her up it was almost like she knew that she wasn't suppose to be in there and stood up. Is she still a little broody and wondering how long before starts to lay again.

Hi everyone-
what is with the broodies? Trying to sneak some in before snow fall? My two ...maybe three are still broody. If there were babies anywhere near here, I would stick some under mine.

Is it storming where anyone is? They predict it, but I think they are just hoping. Its so hot out there!

I just got off work. I put in twelve hours today. Good to be home.

Everyone have a good night.
