If I had only known about this before I gave the chickies to Blanche. HAHAHAHA! I think it would be awesome for him to get bombarded with pictures of "hot chicks". Raz should send him a picture of the girls on his bike. :: nudges ::

Another morning has started and just as soon as the sun is up I will be outside picking green beans. Yesterday's heat convienced me that I don't want to do much outdoors until this latest heat spell breaks.

M.Sue, broodies can indeed be a real pain. It's not unusual for them to not lay for a month after being broody. Between the number lof hens that have recently been or still are broody and with several birds molting my egg production has dropped 25%.

Thanks Opa. I was just wondering & It doesn't really matter for me because her eggs are so little anyway. I have to use 2-3 of them to equal the others. Have a great day.....suppose to be cooler and less humid over the next few days.

That is too funny. I was wondering if you ever met your new neighbors?

Opa- You had better get out there early. I think the humidity is about 110% right now. I am looking longingly at Monday's forecast- highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's- my kind of weather.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

nope. havent met them yet- my husband did. They bought the house, but they are going to be renting it out. I dont know if that stresses me more, or less. seems like more people I have to worry about.

I lost my crippled mallard last night.
The alleged raccoon has taken all my cripples now- that only leaves healthy stock.
The mallard was the one that my stepdaughter got off the main road with the broken wing. She was otherwise healthy, but her wing healed upright so she would never fly.

So, my continued question is do raccons kill geese?
Any coon has to get through the three geese to get to my chicken coop. ,,, er, my broody area. Two are broody in the coop, one is broody under the empty rabbit hutch, against the house.

SAM- I LOVE homegrown beans..but I dont have good memories picking them on my granpas farm. Hated picking beans, and shucking corn when I was a teen. There were places to be, teenage trouble to get in, and instead I was always in the garden being "forced" to pick beans and shuck corn and pick okra. lol. Wish I had a farm to keep my teenagers busy.

Good morning everyone! Reporting in...Blanche kicked the two babies off the nest but I shoved them back underneath her this morning. She is still sitting on them so we will see how this day goes. Blueberry is still hunkered down in one of the coop nest boxes. Oye vey...

Our task today? Opening up the coop so the girls have full run of the shed. This will give them double the amount of space to roam and stretch out. We will close off one corner for our brooding area but I think we will just move the brooding pen in there for now. Fun fun!

Yesterday we went to the Chippewa County fair in the U.P. They had several bantam Polish. I have been trying to get bantam Polish all year with no luck. I had never actually seen one besides pictures. I fell in love with the bantams. So.... does anyone know of where I could get a few bantam polish pullets? I guess I would take chicks but at this point at the end of the summer I don't want to order 25+ chicks so hatcheries are out. If I get rid of a couple large roosters that should give me room to get a few bantams right? At least that's what I told my husband!
