I was out there shortly after 7am and I wish that I had started earlier. I was sweating, I mean glowing, like crazy by the time I finished. This was the third picking of beans and since I don't intend to can anymore I didn't have to be careful with the plants while picking. In fact a good percentage of the plants are pulled from the fence and as soon as it gets a little cooler I will pull the rest of the vines off as it is much easier while the vine is still green.
When I brought the beans into the house Hope had me dump them in the middle of the dining room table and then for about 3 hours Granny, Hope, and I snapped beans. They are now all washed and in jars, and the first batch is in the pressure cooker. We would up with 38 quarts. When you add that to the 110 pints we've already canned I think we are set as far as green beans go.
The next pick task is to picked the horticulture beans, shell, and can them. I've got 4 rows 35' long and the plants are absolutely loaded so there will be a lot to deal with. I'm thinking I may can about half and dry the rest. I will dry them as much as possible, vacumn seal in plastic bags, and then freeze. That way encase they haven't dry completely I won't have to worry about spoilage.
