Someone here posted that they use vinegar and sugar in their fly traps instead of stinky stuff. So I have both hanging and the vinegar/sugar one is like watching a sale at Bloomingdale's! Actually works better than the stinky one! I was very suprised. Now I can have the traps in places closer to the coop because the stinky one ended up being moved further away because of the smell. What a great tip!

I am going to hang another one with vinegar and molasses and see how that works.
 
Can you explain how you set this up as I am having fly issues right now and have several fly bags hanging around and still lots of flies.

They seem to like my maple trees.......
 
Oh yeah!! Share! Share! I have one of those stinky dead-meat bags hanging in my run and MAN O MAN! When the wind shift it is NASTY!!

BLEH! I would LOVE to use vinegar and sugar instead!!! How do you use it? What do you put it in? Do you use the plastic tops from the stink bags and just remove the stink-packet from the bag?

The minute I read your reply I'm running out there and trying it!!!
 
Here are the original directions if you don't want to scroll down the other thread.

NON-STINKY FLY TRAP
- 2-liter bottle
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. vinegar
- water

Take a 2-liter bottle, cut off the top 1/3, and in the bottom section mix water filled to the bottom of the "ring" of nubs on the bottle with the sugar and vinegar. Invert the top and stuff it down into the bottom section, making a funnel that the flies go down into. (The spout of the bottle should be above the liquid, so the flies get trapped in the bottle and drown.)

It doesn't smell really nasty like the store-bought traps do, and it works really well! The vinegar keeps the honeybees from getting caught in the trap. Just don't leave where animals or people can knock them over.

Glad it's working for you ~ we are getting ready to change ours out, and they are full of nasty flies (again). I'll be sure to give DH a peck on the cheek for coming through on this one!

Hi, I bought those disposable fly trap bags, its a clear bag with a black plastic top. But any fly trap will do, like jars, etc. I put in about a cup of vinegar and about a quarter cup of sugar, and hung it about at 2 feet high. After a day or so, it was a busy place! I also added a bit of water. The bag was filled about a quarter or a bit more full with the mixture. And no dead fish head smell, LOL
