@WannaBeHillBilly I drove home with Gil almost an hour the day she hatched. I was so nervous I can't even remember the drive home
I got her from my friend that has about 30 different ducks in her backyard and some geese. She helped teach me all about incubation with Gil, called me when she was hatching, I got to see that and then went into the brooder. We spoke to her while she was in the brooder and for her it was love at first sight with us. It was a lovely 98 degrees F out that day so by the end of the day, she was ready dry and we pulled her out of the brooder, I wrapped her up in a blanket and put her safely in a 5 gallon bucket for the ride home. I put the 5 gallon bucket on the passenger seat so I could watch it and yes, I buckled up the bucket. I imagine that drive home was worse than the drive home from the hospital with my first child would be...
*Drive home*
Not to mention, I remember the drive home with 14 chicks one time. At least for that drive, I had hubby to drive and could keep the box of chickies on my lap!
