As far as pecking order went it was MUCH less brutal than introducing a new chicken. Mostly quacking and chest bumping but no real biting or real violence. The bully chicken got a few pecks in.
Wow, this is total Deja-Vu. One of my two Khaki's was found dead in the pond a few months ago. I also have three chickens and they are all kept together. The remaining duck was upset for a few days (I had little sympathy since she was the murderer) but it was not overly dramatic. She did have...
My duck eggs are HUGE! The smallest ones are the size of a jumbo chicken egg. They are also much more slimy and usually dirtier than the chicken eggs. If you want to know for sure build one nest box on the ground and one about 4-5 feet up. The ducks won't fly up to nest.
Got home yesterday to find one of my two female Khakis doing the backstroke in the pond (40 gal stock tank). She was 1.5 years and healthy other than soft shelled eggs. No signs of attack, the other duck and three chickens are unharmed. The pond is secured inside the run. I think they got too...
Here is my method part of which I learned here - wrap the bird like mentioned above with its head exposed, set it on the ground facing away from you and “mount” it (hold it between your legs). Using both thumbs and index fingers in a circle, squeeze its neck hard and hold. Blood and oxygen to...
I also have a Khaki that always lays soft eggs and one that lays normal. They are both 1.5 years old and get the same everything as the three chickens. Oyster, layer feed, fresh water. They both laid like champs for the first year then one started the soft shells intermittently now it is every...
I recently added two Khaki Campbells in with my chickens who have a sand based run - I add wood chips or shavings as needed and the chickens dig around and mix it all together. The ducks seem to be doing fine.
So I have this unit
Which is not working out for me because the dirty water around the ring leaches back up into the main tank. I dump out the outside and dirty stinky water refills the ring.
Would these hold enough water for the ducks to drink out of?
I use vertical nipples in 5 gallon...
I also have some 2-3 week old Khaki Campbell's, temps overnight are still low 50's even sometimes 48-49. What would be the minimum temp to let them sleep in outside? I have been putting them in the grow out pen around mid-day and leaving them in all afternoon, returning them to the brooder when...
