Soon, I am planning to move and I live in a city. We'll have neighbors, so I wouldn't want to start off on the wrong foot and annoy them with loud chickens. So I'll need quiet ones. They don't need to be major egg layers, but I'd like good layers. And by quiet, I also mean a quiet egg song too...
So I'm on a tight budget and can only spend about $150. This coop looks very nice, and I'm just going to get three chickens (One of them MIGHT be a rooster, so possibly just 2 since we will have to give away any roosters). The ones I have/am going to get are barred rock mixes and an easter...
I've read and read about which breeds are the quietest, and Buff Orpingtons and Easter Eggers are the ones I've seen most. But is one more queit than the other? Or are they both equally quiet? Since I live in a city, I have a neighbor that I'm not quite familiar with but I wouldn't want to star...
I'm quite new to this too; but I believe it helps them know where to start laying. I'm guessing they think that if an egg is there, that must be the place to lay it. But again, I'm new so I'm sure an expert will help you on that.
Well, they are not 100% Barred rocks. I sure hope the first is not a rooster.

Sorry I haven't updated this thread! Well, on Day 21 I looked in the incubator and saw 3 eggs with cracks in them! The next morning, I found a baby chick and one beginning to hatch. Later on, 2 more chicks joined, and then the last one! A total of 4 chicks out of 6. The one egg I felt iffy about...
Hi,
We just went into lockdown and are getting the brooder ready for the chicks. We are on a tight budget and found our guinea pig's bedding that has not been used.
We were wondering if we could use this or had to go buy something else. Here is a link to the bedding...
I currently have a Hovabator 1602n and had it set up for a week before purchasing 6 barred rock eggs! The humidity stays around 55%, never going below 20% unless I open up the bator to turn the eggs (they're hand turned, since I have no turner). The temperature stays 99-100%. I have the...
