Black Australorps not laying eggs ~ 7 month old

My Blue Australorp didn't lay until 9 months old, which was in January!

    The babies are finally here!

Thank you. I would have liked to get them sooner, but husband is still recovering from shoulder surgery so we needed a lot of time to get everything ready.

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

No, that's the only way as far as I know.

I hopefully have a small order from Mt. Healthy arriving the first week of April. I understand they usually include an extra chick in case of one of the others dying. If this is true, do they label what the extra chick is?

I don't know if you found a roo or not, but try Coweta Chatty Chicken Peeps on Facebook. They're always looking to rehome roosters.

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

So I had to make some changes on my choices due to unavailability on the same shipping date. New choices: Blue Australorp, White Leghorn, Barred Plymouth Rock, and Cream Legbar. Sound ok for here in GA? I'm ordering from Mt. Healthy and now need to ask if you go for the vaccination and/or...

Yes, but with the shoulder surgery, we just can't do any building this year. We are getting a coop from a neighbor 3 houses down and will have to disassemble it a bit to get it into our yard, which he feels he can manage with my help.

I decided against the bielefelder (although I really wanted one) because it's large. If I had more room, then I may have chosen that breed. I hadn't heard of the other one.

I've decided on an Americauna, Cinnamon Queen, Blue Australorp, and White Leghorn. I'll see how these do and if they do well, I'll have husband enlarge the coop next year! He had rotator cuff surgery in December, so he can't really do much in the way of construction this year. I'd love to...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hello, I moved to GA about 8 years ago. Prior to that, we were in WA and had chickens. We are getting back into them this year. My concern is the heat. I know there are certain chickens recommended for hot climates, but do others do okay as well? I haven't narrowed down exactly which...

    Advice needed on nest boxes

My hens are still probably a few weeks or more out from laying their first egg. I got them the last week of May, so they're approximately 16 weeks old. We have one of those raised coops with 3 nest boxes that are about 2 feet off the floor. When we first put the hens in the coop at about 6...

Question about light in my garage

I'm raising my chicks in my garage. I'm on day 4 and they all seem fine. I just have one small window in the back wall of my garage, so the chicks are only getting very indirect light. Not to mention I'm in the PNW, so it's overcast a lot. Should I leave my very bright overhead lights on for...

Hello! I just bought my first baby chicks!

I'm so excited. I looked into having chickens a few years ago and it wasn't allowed. I got the bug again recently, checked to see if they were still not allowed, and was pleasantly surprised that they've been allowed for a little over a year now. So I jumped the gun a little and bought 6...
