I like the idea of everybody getting to know each other better. Thank you very very much for your advice. Okay, so I will work on breaking her broodiness. I have been looking at the Forums for some ideas. I'll just keep an eye out for my little broody Beatrix and make sure the chickens that we...
AArrrggghhh. Okay, long story short. So I was able to get 2 (male and female) silkies and 4 australorps (both girls) to sleep in the small coop again. The australorps wouldn't let the girl silkie in the coop at night. Thanks for the wonderful advice I got from my fellow BYC friends. Now my...
I am soooo sad. I have 4 chickens that grew up together and up until last night wouldn't go anywhere without each other. I have two Australopes and two Silkes. One of the silkies turned out to be male, but he's not the problem. They are about 24 weeks old and the two of the ladies are laying...
In the words of Despicable Me "They're so fluffy"! Okay, first question. When I went to the feed store to buy babies I had in my mind to only get hens. I was planning on getting two Silkies and two of one other breed. Of course, I got there and the nice gentleman at the feed store couldn't...
Wow, I am new to BYC and I was steered to this thread. So many beautiful birds everyone has. I have two brand new Silkie babies and questions. I certainly know where to go for the answers. YEAH!!
Thanks Weimarmama from Alabama and DRUMSTICK DIVA I LOVE YOUR HAT!! I think I will join a Silkie thread. Thank you. There is just so much I don't know about Silkies. I was set on getting them when I went to get babies at the feed store, but the plan was to only get hens and no roosters. Well...
Thanks so much Liz9910 and all. Watched a couple of videos on coop cleaning at lunch. Not near the time for that, but might as well prepare myself. Doesn't look any worse than clean out my cat box.
Aren't they! The first night was a little scary, but with the great directions I got from this site they stayed toasty all night long. I did have a little issue with one, but warm water and a Q-tip worked. Daylight savings time didn't bother the peeps at all this morning. Sitting at my desk at...
Thank you very much! I think the Rhode Island Red, but when I called the feed place they said they weren't sure what they would be getting so I guess I will see. Is there some that I should absolutely stay away from as a first timer?
I am very happy I found this site as I am a first timer. Will be picking up my new babies on Saturday. Have the brooder all set up and ready to go. It's a 90-95 degrees toasty as recommended. I am only getting 4 babies so as not to get too overwhelmed. Looking forward to nice fresh chicken...
