Unfortunately the little chick didn't survive the night. I had my suspicions that this would happen. After finding the droppings, I had two poor attempts at feeding, and at around 9pm last night, the chick stopped responding to touch and sound.
Thank you to everyone that gave suggestions and...
Little update: I managed to get the chick to eat a little bit of a chick feed gruel today. In some good news, I found a little bit of poo on the towel. It seemed to be a mix between brown and white. I am attaching some photos of it.
Long post ahead. Sorry!
My sweet girl Franny hatched 5 baby chicks some time yesterday (I didn't realize til I got home that evening) and immediately I noticed that one of them wasn't doing to well. When Franny got up to get food, the others chased her everywhere she went, but this little one...
Update: He appears to be completely fine this morning. I checked his pulse and it doesn't seem irregular or off in any way, and his breathing is normal.
This is possibly one of the strangest things that has happened to me. I was out feeding the chickens. Everything's fine, everyone's eating, etc. I grab one of the waterers to refill it, which took maybe 2 minutes max, and when I brought it back to them, my ayam cemani rooster was lying on the...
I was changing the bedding in the duck house (I use pine shavings) and all of my ducks immediately started to eat it when they realized what I was doing. This isn't something I've noticed them do before and I'm wondering if I should be concerned.
I tried looking it up, but all of the results...
I
I examined the body before I buried it (just in case it was something contagious) and the only spot I saw was a small bald spot on its neck, but the neck itself didn't feel broken. But it's likely I could have missed something
I recently bought a few ducklings from Tractor Supply. They are around 4 weeks old. I checked on them about 2 hours prior and everyone appeared fine, so I was surprised to find one dead.
The duckling was lying on the ground, and had blood coming out of one nostril and a few droplets around the...
Update 2: the second hen that became sick seems much better today. She's eating and drinking well and is very active. Her droppings even appeared to be semi normal (photo attached). The first one, though, has only gotten worse. She can't stand on her own anymore. If she tries she stumbles around...
Update:
Since I'm not 100% sure what's going on, I'm taking preventative measures. The two hens have been isolated from the rest of the flock and are going to be watched/treated carefully. The entire flock has been wormed and corid has been added to their water, and I have disinfected the coop...
Both of their crops seem empty right now. The second hen dropped a very yellow runny poo right in front of me. It's been a few months since I wormed the flock, so I'm gonna go ahead and worm everyone. I'm also going exchange the water and put corid in it. I'm going to place them into a large dog...
I just got home from work so I haven't had the chance to feel for an egg yet, but I'm doubting that's what this is. When I went to check on her, I noticed another one of the hens hiding away from the rest with her tail downwards, also appearing weak (attached photo). I'm now afraid that this is...
I use the Durvet vitamins and electrolytes in their water. Is that enough or should I try some pedialyte? She is a little over a year old. I was missing an egg in the nesting boxes yesterday, so that could possibly be her. And her crop does feel a bit firm. Do you think she could be egg bound? I...
When I went out to feed my chickens I noticed one of them did not run up to get food. I found her standing alone in the yard as if she was confused or dazed. She was standing in one place, slightly poofed up, and her head was bobbing around back and forth and her eyes kept closing as if she was...
