Hi!
I wanted to do something like this since my town prohibits accessory structures for farm animals. Unless you have 3-5 acres of land. I live on one acre. I wonder if this setup would "fly" Especially if the run is out the side. In my case I would use privacy fencing to keep things "private"...
I live in Somers and proposed an ammendment change under zoning. No where does it say that you can't have chickens on a one acre lot. It just talks about "housing farm animals" in an accessory structure. The structure has to be 200 feet from the property line. What if you don't have an outdoor...
Is it okay to have your chicens in the attached garage? Then have a run out the window to the outside? My town has a law "Housing farm animals in accessory structures"
The structure has to be 200 feet from the property line.
I plan on putting my coop in my garage. The zoning folks would need a...
Yes, they kept minutes of the meeting.
It just seemed like the town did not want to deal with the hassle of enforcing this. But I have a not from a zoning inforcement officer in another town who said in 6 years they didn't get any complaints (except maybe about a rooster)
They said a bunch of...
I know, really?
I would post a reply but apparently she visits this website and will probably read it.
She quoted the information from this site in her arguments.
She hasn't heard the last of me.

Well,
I lost the zone amendment change. My neighbor got all of her friends to show up and I only had one person speak in my favor. It was horrible.
All I was trying to do was make it legal for the residents to keep backyard chickens with reasonable restrictions.
All the reasons they gave were...
well the meeting is tonight and already I am finding a neighbor who is speaking out against my proposal.
She says that chickens carry salmonella.

Hi,
My zone change amendment change is now at the town hall and has "passed" from the zoning commision to the planning commision and now back to the zoning commision for the public hearing this Monday November 5th @ 7pm.
I learned, at this meeting that my mean neighbor has written a letter...
I need to move my coop to the back yard but I need my husbands help with that. I certainly do need to get ready for winter. My plymouth rock hen is moulting right now. What a mess with the feathers!
Anyone?
Carolyn
Sorry. I don't know about the custom processing.
Today I went down to Town Hall and applied for the zone change. It cost $185 bucks.
The building inspector (also the guy on the zoning board) said he was impressed with my proposal.
:)
So the initial meeting with the board is on October 15th and...
Hi,
I just got published this week. A full page spread in the Journal Inquirer. Now I have to use the publicity to work on fund raising and raising awareness of the issue.
The law is totally not fair! 200 feet from the property line??? that just doesn't work. I need to change the laws to amend...
Hi everyone!
I am in Somers and I just got a certified letter notice from the Town. I didn not pick it up yet but I am sure that the letter is a Ceace and desist letter telling me to get rid of my chickens.
I plan on having them moved across the street temporarily until the town gets me note...
Okay,
But I am almost positive he is a rooster. His behavior tells a lot. I was also wondering if the other one (silver laced) is a hen.
They are bonded and she seems to keep her head lower and he tends to look around a lot. She doesn't have the rose comb yet
I took a real good look at my...
Hi,
I read
all the threads here and still have a question about sexing the light brahma. I have a chick that is about 10 weeks old (roughly) and seems very rooster like.
Was it determined that the "puff ball" tail feathers are pullets? I certainly don't see any pointed tail feathers on my...
I had 26 people. The talk was an hour long but I finished in 45 minutes and then had questions and answers. It was a lot of fun.
Afterwards I found this great pamphlet form an Agway store on "How to build a chicken coop" I wish I brought it with me because I didn't spend much time on the coop...
