Boy, my girls production is down already. Has anyone else noticed that too? It seems way too early to start a Winter break. They usually don't stop till after Halloween.

Maybe they're disappointed in the less-than-splendorous fall foliage?

I'm just waiting for my first eggs. My pullets are only at about 15 weeks, so I have a while to go yet. I'm hoping the colder weather holds off as we have yet to build them a run. Where did the summer go????? We gave up on framing it and are planning on the good old hoop coop with cattle panels...covered with hardware cloth.

Anyone around here ever use chicken sitters? We're going to have the run done by the end of October (she says confidently and perhaps foolishly), and then we are heading to Mexico for a week. I've seen sittercity list chicken sitters, but I'm curious if you all a) don't ever go on vacation or b) are lucky enough to have chicken-friendly neighbors/friends/family.

Vacations are tough. We haven't gone on one since we got the girls, but we did have to go on an overnight business trip last year and found a neighbor girl who could shut them up for 2 nights. Before we got them I kept reading how easy it is to get people to take care of them because everyone wants the eggs. I haven't found that to be true in my neck of the woods. The problem is it really needs to be someone close since it requires at least 2 visits a day.

About the not laying... I now think they are starting a molt, not a revolt.

Hello from Hebron! We got our chicks in early April and we JUST found our first egg on Tuesday! Hooray! However, that's only one out of five hens laying. I hope the others catch up soon.

We've got two Ameracunas, one partridge rock, one blue andalusian and one light brahma. I think it's the partridge rock who is laying since she's making the most noise. The eggs are very light brown, almost pink. Can't wait for more!

Congrats! Very eggciting!

Hi everyone!
I am in Somers and I just got a certified letter notice from the Town. I didn not pick it up yet but I am sure that the letter is a Ceace and desist letter telling me to get rid of my chickens.
I plan on having them moved across the street temporarily until the town gets me note back to them. I want to make zoning law changes.
My understanding was that as long as I was actively trying to change the laws; they couldn't give me a C+D letter. At least that is what the zoning department told me several months ago.
I just got published in the Journal Inquirer a few days ago and I was waiting for the article to print before working out some kind of campaign to raise awareness.
I don't know what to do now.
Thanks for any suggestions. I really appreciate the support
Carolyn
