    Shoulder injury or infection?

Sooooo...the vet put Charcoal to sleep. He said it was a burst abscess but Charcoal was also really underweight. I could have opted for an operation and antibiotics but with the possibility of it being subcutaneous Mareks I didn't think it was worth putting her through that possibly for nothing...

    Shoulder injury or infection?

Apparently not, the first presented with curled feet and the vet said Marek's or metal poisoning. The flock has been vaccinated for Mareks and the others haven't had similar symtoms. The 2nd had runny green poo and was looking quite sick but a dose of antibiotics cleared up very quickly. Now...

    Shoulder injury or infection?

It does look like it doesn't it!!! I only just noticed it as she seems perfectly normal. I've had her since day old so its really really odd. Best take her to the vets today! I've had chickens for years with no issues and in the last month this is my 3rd hen who has had to go to the vet.....sigh :(

    Shoulder injury or infection?

I would really appreciate opinions on my young Silver Laced Wyandotte's shoulder injury. She doesn't seem ill but I can't think how she would have sustained this injury. It's dry and not bleeding but is obviously irritating her.

4 week old Faverolles - boy or girl

Yes, eggs would be the best idea but I wanted 2 pullets to keep my other Fav company for although she gets on well with my Barnevelder and Australorpe her nature is so different. If she doesn't pull through I think I'll just get rid of both 4 wk olds before I bond with them :)

4 week old Faverolles - boy or girl

No, I asked for 2 pullets. I am in Perth, Western Australia and Faverolles are very hard to come by so it's all a bit hit and miss. There was a queue of people and I think she was trying to get rid of me;( I'm not having much luck with my Faverolles.....I have a beautiful 10 wk old girl (almost...

    Nervous new Barnevelder

Thanks guys for your advice...a big help to a newbie!!! I have provided them with a lot more cover...we had lots of fun moving all the kids old cubby houses into their area and joining them with various panels. That helped a lot. However the miracle came when I bought them 2 new buddies, an 8...

    Nervous new Barnevelder

Hi All, I am new to keeping chickens and am already having problems:( I picked up 2 Barnevelder pullets (approx 10 wks old) 2 weeks ago and they just seem so unhappy. They have a smallish hen house and run but a 30sqm free range area but they just spend all of their time either in the hen...
