I think we need to think for the chickens sometimes...especially Silkies. Watch their feet for frostbite...pop any blisters and apply antibiotic cream...hope they're alright! :)
Just an update on "Wig." She has been back with her flock for weeks now and is in fine shape! She's exploring out in the snow, by choice, with the rest of them on the better days!
I am still amazed at the relative ease and great success of the crop surgery in restoring her once impacted crop...
Thanks so much. Yep. Another reminder of how I need to make up a treatment kit and have it stocked! Truth is, I used to cull more often. The recent & wildly successful crop surgery has changed my mind. These girls are definitely worth spending time on! I have way less going on this time of year...
Holy smokes! Thanks for doing all the math! It looks reasonable...but now I need a TB syringe! All I have is a 3ml. syringe. How in the world am I going to get close to accurate with that?!!
Hi Kathy,
I have one hen. Thought it was sour crop, but now am thinking it's enteritis. The only thing Tractor Supply had that was close to something that might help her is an oral suspension of neomycin sulfate 200 mg equivalent to 140 mg neomycin. I know it's a long shot. She is still...
Any wise people out there that can help me with a dosage for neomycin sulfate 200mg oral solution? As in, how much neomycin to add to 1 gal. water?
Thanks in advance,
Hey all -
I realize that this is a really old thread, but Shadowgrass's video is so perfectly definitive of how to ream out a crop, that I had to resurrect it!
I have a little EE who developed an impacted crop. She's a little over one year old, and is in good health, otherwise. I have always...
I have a cross beaked Buff Orpington Plymouth Barred Rock. She manages very well without any special treatment. She's a good weight and a faithful layer.
Hey all - thank you for the thoughtful replies!
I will definitely post new pics in a few weeks. I am agreeing with the general consensus, that I have two pullets. When they hatched, one was ginormous compared with the other, so maybe the comb / and wattles being more developed on the one is...

Hi all. I'm new to this breed, Black Copper Marans. I bought two fertile eggs from a local breeder for my bantam Leghorn to hatch; she's so small, she can only handle a couple LF eggs. The two in question are 10 weeks old. One has a comb & wattles, and the other has no sign of either...
I've never had such a time getting a photo of birds than I did with these! And I never did get one of the 12 week old LF barred Rock pullet...but I will because I would love your opinion. I think she's pretty "dishy!"
