    fowl pox in chicks?

Hi! The chick is still going strong! She/he has only one eye and a slightly deformed beak. It was a very long road of soaking, swabbing, different topicals, and babying. We have a bond now for sure, *she* "Rosa P" comes running when I go out to the back pasture where they are. I don't have...

    fowl pox in chicks?

Thanks Texgardengirl! I was hoping you would chime in as well as Pmontou. A farmer friend of mine said to cull her, but she is showing such a fight for life I just can't do it. If she stops eating or showing signs of failure to survive I will assist, but not yet!

    fowl pox in chicks?

I have a chick with terrible fowl pox... To the extent of developing deformities. I feel so terrible. She (hopefully) is eating and drinking and foraging, but look at her. I have been applying veteycin eye ointment and wiping her beak with a warm wash cloth. Her beak is starting to become...

    Non-stop issues, is this normal?!?

Thanks ChickenNamaste! Those are words of encouragement! I am just starting to think people with 100+ chickens and the big industrial chicken production operations must feed medicated feed or put antibiotics in the water on a frequent basis... I do love these feathered beauties, so I want to...

    Non-stop issues, is this normal?!?

Hey flock- I have started to get frustrated and question my chicken raising skills. I have 40 hens and 2 roosters living on 4 acres of lush pasture. They have a outdoor barn stall they sleep in at night, but otherwise they free range all day. It seems like every other week someone is sick and...

Lethargic, bubbly runny beak, droopy tail.... HELP!

I "violated" her.... I went in her vent with a lubed pinky to check for an egg :O I am sure there is a more appropriate medical term for that. Thanks for the advice and fast response! I just checked on her again and she feels almost bloated and her abdomen was making a few subtle noises....

Lethargic, bubbly runny beak, droopy tail.... HELP!

I searched through a lot of posts for answers, nothing was quite perfect. I have a hen (1 yr. old New Hampshire Red) that was isolated and standing with a droopy tail all lethargic. I picked her up and turned her upside down to check her vent and a steady bit of clear fluid ran out of her...

Stumped diagnosis?! Egg bound, paradontis (sp?), ???

Thanks so much for your response. Sadly, she stopped eating and was wobbly so we helped her cross over :( I hated t see her suffer and I had exhausted my performance options. When we did take her life there was not much blood. She was so dehydrated! Thanks again for your suggestion and link...

Stumped diagnosis?! Egg bound, paradontis (sp?), ???

Hey Gang! I have a leghorn who is 10 months old and has had a slow health decline. Her comb has never developed like the other girls and in the past couple weeks she has started isolating herself from the flock of the other 20 hens and one roo. I have had her isolated for 4 days and started...

    What is This???

I have 17 other chickens in an outside barn stall (they free range on 4 acres all day). Currently this girl is being kept in an inside barn stall. I got a better look at it and there doesn't appear to be any "head" or site of impact on the bump. It is fairly firm. I gave her 1/2 cc of Tylan...

    What is This???

I just picked up 3 chickens from someone who had a cat attack in their urban coop and wanted her girls to go to somewhere more rural for their safety. The one was killed yesterday. I brought the three survivors home and one of them has this big bump at the base of her beak near her eye. I am...

    SOS Chicken Down

She is burning up so I am hesitant to put her in warm water..... I just did a quick slip of a lubed pinkie up there and it feels about 120 degrees and there was no obstruction, but I only went about 1" in.... was that far enough? I have a small fan in the large stall and she limped over and...
