My hens are 1 year old. 2 of the 3 went through a molt early fall. They both were very good layers previously but totally stopped laying eggs. It’s been 3 months now (a welsummer and an Easter egger)
They are Both acting normal, eatting and drinking fine etc. I upped their protein during the...
I have 3 chickens. They are all almost a year old. My most dominant Welsummer stopped laying about a month ago now. She was previously laying 1 almost every day.
She is not broody (My silkie currently is) and is otherwise acting just fine. She is eatting, drinking, perky, crop acting...
We returned from a long weekend away this morning to find our silkie all puffed up in her coop by herself. (We had family looking in on our girls whole away.)
She is inside in a sick box now and has been pooping normally, but hasn’t eaten or drink anything. She is still puffed up and her tail...
My Welsummer laid a few at the beginning that were mostly hard but had some soft spots. This is different. They are like soft smushed shells mixed in with the white and yolk. I will try to get a picture next time it happens.
I haven't actually been able to catch her laying. But I am pretty sure she is laying them broken. There is always a shell, but it is always smooshed (word???)
Please Help! My 8 Month Old Easter Egger keeps laying broken eggs. She started laying around 7 months and laid good eggs for about a week. Then she laid a broken egg every day or every other day. She didn't seem to be feeling well at the time. Through advice I gave her calcium citrate...
Thank you all so much for your help. Leia started laying good hard shell eggs about 5 days into the calcium supplements and 4 days after starting the antibiotics. We stopped the calcium of course and she finishes her round of antibiotics tomorrow. She is active, alert and now laying hard eggs!
Thanks, Ill try that. I have always tried at dusk before, not once it is completely dark. No lights are inside. There is just a bit of ambient light from a security light on the light pole by our barn.
Hi, I have 3 chickens that are all about 9 months old. I cannot get them to roost at all!
They sleep on the floor of the coop all cuddled together or in close proximity to each other.
Their coop is large (for 3 hens anyway) and I have tried different heights and sizes of roosting bars. All a...
I cannot get her to take the calcium. She isn’t a big fan of yogurt and if I put a few other treats in my hand she will eat all of the treats and not the pill. Any other tricks???
Thanks. I am new at this and had read not to use play sand because it was bad for their lungs. All of our dirt is the hard clay, so should I just buy a bag of potting soil with no fertilizers, etc?
