Some of my worst childhood memories involved a RIR rooster that my grandfather had! He hated me! I could not even go out to the coop without being flogged. I am not saying that all are like that, just my experience. I have vowed never to have one now. I love my RIR hens though...

I put a nipple in a 32 oz Gatorade bottle lid, screwed in on the bottle, cut out the bottom and screwed it into the side of the brooder for my day old chicks. They started using it right away, I just "pecked" on it with my finger and they came right over. They are inquisitive little buggers!

When does this breed usually start to lay? I have a couple of pet quality that are 16 weeks and was just wondering.
