It's a 12 week Delaware. I ordered nineteen roosters but I think about three are hens. Crossing my fingers. Chicken math is really getting to me; I have 25 golden sexlinks coming in March. I also hope I can get more black sexlinks and aracaunas. (sp?)
I still have about two months to wait on these so I guess I should know for sure then. Delawares are so pretty I just didn't know I would want a bunch of Delaware hens when I got them. Chicken math is becoming a serious problem for me, I have 25 golden sexlink hens coming in march. Thank you...
Hi, I am new-ish to BYC and wanted to share a picture of my black sexlink. I had twenty of different colors but sadly she was the only survivor of a dog attack. I hope you think she is as beautiful as I do.
I was raising Delaware roosters for science fair and didn't want to eat any hens by accident. When I was reading it said that hens would have black tail feathers instead of barred feathers and this one has black feathers but the tail looks wrong. Here are some pictures
Here is a comb/ head...
First, thanks for all of the helpful comments.
I had been raising them in the winter, so I know heat wasn't a problem. I processed them at seven weeks also because they had reached eight pounds. The ones that flipped over, did it around week six. They were not trampled, just kind of fell on the...
I was very prepared when they arrived. They were kept in a back room in my shop which was kept at a constant 70 degreese with two heat lamps. At two weeks I switched them to 12 on 12 off feeding. They were fed the generic meat bird feed at my quality supply store and had 22percent protein.

I am doing a science fair project and have had terrible luck with my Cornish Broilers. I do not think I did anything wrong but they just kept dying. In the end, I had 50 percent die. I was just wondering what stats were with other people raising Cornish. I would like to use the data I collect to...
I purchased 20 from Meyers hatchery and am now down to 11. They are now six weeks old and all are right at eight pounds and will be processed soon. These are definately annoying birds and it seems like they truly die for no reason. I have had two break down, three flip over dead in front of me...
That is ok. As of this morning, it is walking perfectly fine on its foot. I have it in a small room in my shop and it is just as big as all of the other ones that are in the coop. I probably will not try to reintroduce it though, because it will be the odd one out.
sorry I quoted the wrong line...
Okay, so the crippled chick is now walking again but with its foot curled under. When it walks like this it kind of hobbles around but does not squawk when it puts weight on its foot. I curled it foot back the right way and set it down, and it walked around fine but after a couple of steps it...
Thanks. I am cleaning out the whole coop, disinfecting feeders and water and bringing in all new food and water. Hopefully that will prevent more from wheezing as well. Is it weird that this ones crop was empty too? I just thought it may be helpfull to know. Thank you for all of the help.
Good news and Bad news
So I checked on the chicken with the leg problem this morning and it was still alive. It is much more energetic now that I have given it the vitamins. It will drink and eat on its own, but I have to move it every couple of hours so it is not sitting in its poop.
Chicken...
