Not looking forward to today's weather! Our coop is really light weight, but we put rocks around the bottom. I'm hoping it's enough to stop it from blowing over.

Hatching sounds so fun! I spent way too much time last night looking at eggs and incubators online. I home school my middle child, so it would be a double win. I just have so much going on already.

Yeah. These have quickly become my nine year old's pets. They aren't going in the pot. I average 4 eggs a day, and for us that is plenty! I give away a dozen eggs a week or so. Now if I could start selling them, I would do more.

Oh my gosh! There are four bantams that are almost fully feathered at our Family Farm and Home. They are in with all the tiny chicks, and were not very happy. I was so close to bringing them home today! I have five big hens, and no place to put them, though. I'm just curious, when is a chicken...

Yeah. Our dogs don't actually go in our basement, but it is not draft free. Our house is 142 years old. Replacing windows down there is on the list for this year.

There was a bald eagle at the John Ball Zoo that didn't have a wing. They thought for sure he would never be able to balance enough to breed, and yet they did more than once! You just never know! Tell me more about this brooder! I have a lab that loves the taste of chicken and a german short...

We free ranged our chickens when I was a kid. Our dog was always finding egg. Yet another cold morning. We only got two eggs out of five hens yesterday. One of our hens holds off and then lays one the size of a duck egg, though. She did one Sunday, so probably tomorrow.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? Tiny house, big yard. I went looking at the map. It was between Thompson and Oak Beach county parks, so the address was Port Austin.

My stepdad's parents had a place near Caseville on the water. I miss going there so much. Those are some of my best childhood memories.

R.A. is no fun! My husband's numbers are actually in the normal, but high range for R.A.. His pain though is pretty off the charts, a lot. He also has genetic spinal issues that contribute. I have been pushing him for a while to try the Auto Immune protocol diet, since I have so many friends...

Thanks for all the welcomes. Still getting back into the Michigan weather mindset. We moved down to Fort Wayne, IN for five years. You wouldn't think that just three hours makes a big difference, but it does! It will be all green, and everything will be starting to blood down there in the week...

Good to know! They came with a bag of feed, so I haven't needed to shop for that yet. We keep saying we need to go over there and poke around. We moved here in June, and spend out weekends going to new places.

Hello from Cedar Springs! I got five hens last week from someone my husband works with. They offered us seven hens and an awesome coop. Stuff happened and we got fove hens and a small kit coop. Still happen to take what we got though! Let the fortifying and building begin! These are some of the...

    Hello!

My name is Ashley. I grew up on a small farm, and had chickens growing up. My husband and I just purchased a place in the country, and are super excited to get chickens this Spring! So are our kids. Ages 14, 8, and 10 months. (The last one isn't excited yet, but I'm sure she will be some day...)
