    At least 1 of my hens has been laying later in the afternoon since it has gotten cooler here.

    We clean the coop and nest boxes every weekend. If it needs attention during the week we clean it also. I agree you can never be too clean. I haven't had to deal with any illness so I guess we are doing something right.

    Just candled...a little premature

    Hatching is very addictive. I have hatched a bunch of quail and all 21 of my chickens. I can't wait till Spring because I'm gonna hatch more!!

    I'm not sure about making money. I raise Quail as well as Chickens. I sell the chicken eggs $2 a dozen. I pickle the quail eggs and sell them $5 a jar.     How do you clean your egg shells?

    My eggs always come out clean. I agree if the nest box is clean then your eggs will be clean. I certainly reuse egg cartons.

    How to cull a chick?

    I'm glad I never had to be faced with culling. I would have to get my husband to do it. There is no way I could kill an animal. I would feel so horrible. I understand certain situations you have no choice, but my animals are my babies and I totally understand how hard this is to do. Good Luck !!

    Giving chickens hard boiled eggs

    I scrambled my chickens eggs . I used the whites to make cookies so I didn't want to waste the yolk. They LOVED them !!
