If I had to guess, it's gotta be a territorial thing, we got rid of our phoenix hen babies because our big girls would chase them..... after seeing what happened to the sparrow... we were sure they would had, had the same demise.. They now reside on a great farm!!!
Hello all... I have to phoenix hens (pics are up) in need of a good loving home- I'm afraid our big hens are going to hurt or kill them at this point- both of them are about 3 months old and really pretty and sweet. It hurts my heart to see them go but it would just kill me if they ended up hurt...
Had to remove a dead sparrow this morning from the run, or at least the body of it, all ten of our hens were fighting over it. Missy had the sparrows head in her mouth and it took some real convincing and a peck or two just to get it away from her... didn't want her/them to eat it as they carry...
Hello all!!! I am really new to all this and was given an adult flock of 10 hens (4BR and 6BO), they are about 1-1 1/2 years old- we also got 15 chicks who are a whopping 10 weeks old now (10 RIR, 2 BR, 2 bantams, and a BSL), the only roo is one of our RIR chicks, they are about 2/3 the size of...
we gave ours some ACV in her water and it fixed it, within 24 hours, they were about 5 1/2 weeks old (another developed this) and it i tell ya it worked great!!! just added a few drops to their water dispenser ( it think it is supposed to be 1 tsp to a gallon or something, you could research it...
update--- she's certainly a roo- his tail feathers are turning an irridecent green :) it is what it is - but my DH is awful happy to have a rooster in the bunch
is there anything different to raising a rooster than there is hens? i know that sound silly but... it's really an honest question- also just putting this out there but does anyone know why one of our young ones smells like sour milk?
