A Bayou Swamp Coop
Hey guys, I just finished my coop design and I am excited to show you. And I want to give credit to Jarhead for the ideas. I really liked his plans and modified them a little to get the coop I was shooting for.
As you can see it is a simple 2x4 and 2x3 construction along with...
Hi BasicLiving:
Yes the run is bare of vegetation. I need to move it and will do that this weekend. they don't free range. The wife won't let em. Afraid the boogeyman will get em. We have eleven hens and a roo in a 14x10 run attached to a 4x6 coop with several additional footage of roosting...
Our hens are pulling out our roos tail feathers! Why the #%$ are they doing that? What is the attraction? How can we stop it? They are just about to lay. They are about 17 weeks old now and there is a lot of fighting amonst the bunch. We can't tell who is fighting who; but the roo has a little...
Suburban Chick Farmer:
Good start.
Like your self I started with a hutch I built out of a box. A box that stove appliances come in makes a great hutch when laid on its side and the front covered with 1" hardware cloth. Quickly had to build the coop and run. Let me know your progress. I enjoy...

Good morning red hen!
Sorry it's been long getting back to you. Crawfish season is in full swing here in Louisiana and has been for a few weeks now. They are really plentiful this season and seems to be good sizes. If you are in the area, Tunks'...
Thanx everyone for the great comments.
I have to say...it was a true labor of love. I think I broke a finger while building it but I am not sure. It's been at least a month since I got it caught in a bind and felt the excruciating pain (followed by an odd warm feeling).
It has that sharp and...

Thanks for your reply...I was thinking that somewhere in the range of 12-15" should be plenty. I have RIRs with one being a rooster. They aren't fully grown yet or I would make them backup to the door facing as our mom had us do.
You might try letting them get a little hungrier than usual. When I train our dog, I feed him a little less in the morning. That evening when it's time to train him, he is willing to solve quantam physics equations to get that little treat that I have for him.
Hey guys. With today being their first day out and feeding off the ground, I am thinking when would be the time to introduce oyster shell to their diet.
Oh, and what is the next food sampling and when do I start them on that.
Chickens are just cool. They are like that person you know who is...
