    One hatched out last night!

Hehe, spooky only because of the flash of the camera. It was getting dark. She is a great mom. I had no idea that is how a mom and baby would sleep. Wonder what would have happened if she hatched out more. LOL

    One hatched out last night!

Still not sure what he/she is since we have a Brahma roo in with Brahma hens and Golden Comets. The eggs she hatched were from a community clutch so.. Since he isn't red I would say he is definitely not a Golden Comet hen.

    One hatched out last night!

UPDATE: Mom and baby were re-introduced to the flock last Saturday. There were a few tense moments when some of the hens challenged the mom, but boy did she stand her ground and protect him. Here is a photo of them out side and then one I took last night when they were roosting.

    Brahma Roo limping

I finally got the nerve up to grab the roo in the night. Very happy he was compliant as looking at the size of his legs and beak made me very aware that he could easily make me say OUCH! I did not notice anything when looking at him. Nothing unusually warm or injured looking. He grabbed our...

    Brahma Roo limping

Our year and half old Brahma Roo took to limping last week. Seems to favor one leg and hops around only putting light pressure on the "injured" leg. I can not see any visible injury or signs that he got caught in something. He is in an enclosed run with 3 goats (dwarf Nigerian wethers) everyone...

my new pullets are eating their eggs

I sympathize with your egg eater issue. I have seen curtains as a suggested deterrent for egg eating. I have this issue currently in my flock and was wondering if anyone could elaborate on this technique. Is there a thread I can refer too? We have been unsuccessful in identifying the culprit as...

    One hatched out last night!

Update: We only hatched one. Saturday we checked the eggs again and just had to clean the kennel as the stench was horrible. Come to find out that we had one for sure but possibly two rotten eggs (both floated in water) My DH opened the offending eggs to find one full of smelly rot and the other...

    One hatched out last night!

Mom in her birthing suite Little one that hatched out last night. It seems that he has found the water and we have put in chick feed tonight. Finally, you can see 2 of the other 4 eggs she still has under her. We peeked at them and did not see any signs that they were attempting to break...

    One hatched out last night!

Went out last night to check on our Golden Comet sexlink hen. She is sitting on 5 eggs. I took out 3 and was going for the 4th when I heard a peep and saw little legs! It startled me as we were not expecting them to arrive until Saturday..guess my timing is a bit off. How long should we wait...

    Candling eggs and appearences

Shell was uniform in color as many of our eggs are. There are on occasion some that are speckled on the outside but, not many. Our egg colors range from light cream to medium to dark brown. When candling about 20 eggs that night some looked like this, others had little to no mottling. One site...

    Candling eggs and appearences

Does anyone have eggs that appear this way? Is there anything to be concerned about regarding the mottling or specked appearance of this egg? I found one site online that it suggests bacteria or disease? HELP! I have Brahmas and Golden Comets (Sex-links)
