Should I clean off dirty eggs before I start incubating?

Hi There, Have you ever hatched Sebastapol Geese? We had a few mailed to us, and one is very muddy, not poopy. Do we wash them? We are concerned that if we contaminate the egg-the hatching will be dismal. Thanks in advance!! We also read that Sebastapols use less humidity. We also...

Goose Incubation & Hatching Guide - Completed!!!!

This is really great!!! Awesome information. We have a question-we just received 6 Sebastapol geese eggs, in the mail. So you said that Sebastapols lose less moisture than Africans. What amount of humidity should we be setting it at? We have read everything from 75% to almost 100%, which...

Cleaning poo off pasty butt, thought it was dried poop, but it was her cord.

I thought the dark spot was poo stuck to her body. This was a chick we received 4 days after birth, she was shipped a long way, and after food and water, she had this spot. Normally, warm water would remove the dried poo, but I realized, that it wasnt' She seemed a little mad, for about 5...

Cleaning poo off pasty butt, thought it was dried poop, but it was her cord.

No, thank goodness-she was 4 days old when she arrived. On the ones we hatch, they fall away within a day. This was a black mass, looking like poo, stuck to her skin.

Cleaning poo off pasty butt, thought it was dried poop, but it was her cord.

So I think she is ok-I didn't remove it, but she was cheeping for about 5 minutes. She seems happy now, I have never seen something like this cord, it's a little large, it's not bleeding. Hopefully it will come off soon. Thanks guys, great to know that you are always watching....

Cleaning poo off pasty butt, thought it was dried poop, but it was her cord.

Did I hurt my chick, I was using warm water, and thought it was kinda being difficult to come off, and I realized it was really attached to her. Did I just hurt my 6 day old chick?

    Hackle feathers curling

Well, I thought about that, but I have never seen anyone picking on it. He has 6 hens in his group. As long as no one feels like he is in peril, I won't worry. He looks happy, crows, and does normal rooster things. I just have never seen this before. Thank you sourland for responding.

    Emaciated chicken, mushy crop, ideas?

Hi, I'm kinda new here. I have a Rhodey, who may be up to 4 years old. We noticed she was acting cold, and even though we worm, feed twice a day, give cereal (grain, whole fat milk, and boss) she was emaciated.. All the others, fine. Brought her upstairs to house, lovin the warmth, but not...
