I am so sorry, thank you for sharing your experience, I will get her going with the calcium citrate! I did give her nutridrench yesterday since she looked so poorly. I’ll give her some eggs and offer a bunch of other things too. A crate in the run is a good idea, I have an extra large dog crate...
I don’t think she’s laying or has been, but I’m not 100% sure. I’m willing to try the extra calcium supplement for her, is what she’s experiencing a sign of not getting enough? Thank you so much for replying!
Ok I have a mystery illness in one of my hens… I have a flock of 14, they are all 3 years old now. About two months ago I noticed one of my red stars wasn’t pecking around like the rest of the flock, she just stood in the middle of the other hens and shook her head occasionally. When I picked...
I would keep up with the cleaning/wrapping, especially for the larger bumble that’s healing. However, if you’ve been cleaning/dressing/wrapping for a while already and haven’t seen continued improvement I would suggest cleaning/drying/wrapping without applying ointment. I found my chicken hit a...
Ah of course, duh 😅 thank you for that!
Just braved the CA cold to check and her ear looks normal, no swelling or redness, her eye also looks great, no swelling or bubbles
Honestly I didn’t check her ear, I should have when I caught her and wiped out her eye and put neosporin on…
I just looked back at the video I took of her and her fluffy cheeks are in the way so I can’t see her ear clearly. I will make a trip out to the coop to check. What additional clue would...
Oh wow I can ship a dead chicken? Or do I ship it live and they KO it once it arrives?
I will for sure look into getting testing done asap, thank you! It certainly would be better to just find out for sure than stare my chickens to death and speculate 🧐
Another question about this, could it possibly be anything else besides MG? Or are bubbles in the eye only a symptom for MG?
No bubbles yesterday or today, my hen (Brownie) appears to be acting totally normal, no nasal discharge and her breathing sounds good
Probably just wishful thinking that...
They probably got it from the wild turkeys that have been frequently jumping on top of the run. It has also been cold and they recently molted/are still molting.
I think mostly I’m worrying too much.
Got them online from mypetchicken a little over 2 years ago. I haven’t added any new members to the flock, still my original hens.
Lost 2 to a grey fox after free ranging, so we built a large, enclosed run to protect them (we have foxes, hawks, bobcats, coyotes, etc) and only let them out on the...
Thank you for that <3 hopefully she can kick this easily enough and the rest of the flock stays relatively healthy.
Wild turkeys have been jumping on top of my enclosed run over the last month, I should have been more diligent about keeping them away :( :( :(
Thanks for responding, I was thinking that could be it. I already wiped out the eye and will be applying some ointment tonight. I really appreciate it so much!
Every little tick with my chickens has me on edge lately. I feel a bit naive in how I thought having chickens would go… Overly...
Discovered today that one of my EE has bubbles in the corner of one eye… She seems to be acting normal otherwise, I’m on poop watch right now to get a look at her droppings, she’s foraging now.
The eye seems to keep producing bubbles in the inner corner, the other eye looks fine, but her fluffy...
