I see I'm a little late to the site, but I'm also in the Bend area. Actually in Alfalfa, 15 minutes East of Bend. We have 6 hens; 2 RIR, 2 Buff Orp's and 2 Black Sex Links. Love talking Chickens also! Cyndi
I have the same thing going on! I have 6 hens, no roosters, and only one of my RIR's has the neck feathers missing. I am new to chickens and wasn't sure if it was molting or something more serious. You said you got some DE and sprinkled it on them. What is DE? I also saw on a different site...
I am having the same problem with one of my chicks. I don't have a rooster either. I saw a different post that recommended more protein, such as calf manna. I think I'm going to try that. Thanks for posting, I was going to, but you beat me to it!
This is our first spring with chickens on our acreage. We usually put Casoron out at least twice a year for weed control, but I'm worried about my chickens. I know to wait until it rains to put on the Casoron, but how long should I wait till I let my hens out? Thanks for your help!
When I cleaned out my coop today, I noticed that one of my hens had two blobs of black, runny/gummy, very smelley poo. I have never seen this before. Is this a sign she may be getting sick? They all free ranged today and I didn't notice any other symptoms. All my hens are 5 months old...
My chicks were out today and I noticed they were fighting over something in our yard. They were eating the mushrooms coming up in the grass. Is that OK for them to eat? I am a newbie and it worries me that they may have gotten into something that isn't good for them! Thanks for all your help!
