Preparing Your Flock & Coop for WINTER

Thank you so much for the tips! We have a "loft" like second floor that definitely adds space. Our run is sheltered, but I may add on under the run as well to give them a little extra protection and room to stretch out. I'm also thinking of mounting a few feeders to the walls so they don't take...

Preparing Your Flock & Coop for WINTER

Oh boy! I'll have to have my construction crew rig an addition up real quick! Thankfully it does have two levels inside so that it has more floor space, but the coop plan said it could fit 8 large birds!

Preparing Your Flock & Coop for WINTER

Thanks for the input! The coop is 3x4. We have 3 RIRs, 3 Aruacanas, and a Plymouth Barred Rock. I'll plastic off the window part way just in case. There is a vent at the roof level across the entire back of the coop, above where they roost. The spaces between the barn board siding also allow for...

Preparing Your Flock & Coop for WINTER

This is our first winter with our coop. It holds our 7 girls really snugly. Chicken feathers around face only quills

I have an Aruacana who is being quarantined right now due to a sprained leg. She's been alone for almost two weeks. I noticed the other day that the fluff around her face beak and face is gone, with only bits of quills exposed. Do I have a mites/ lice infestation on my hands here? Thank you!

Hen won't put weight on leg

Thank you for the info. I think it must be a sprain due to the fact that her feathers were caught in the wire she must have tripped on in some sort of chase. She isn't laying down to rest it- just balancing on one leg and hopping around here and there. It may be because the dog crate is so big....

Hen won't put weight on leg

I came home Sunday afternoon to find some loose feathers in the coop and one of my seven chickens standing on one leg. I checked her for puncture wounds and found nothing. It seems that as she was rushing around, she must have tripped over a wire and got a leg caught in it. The wire has since...
