Just a quick update on the chicks:
The chick who had the missing toe is finally healed up, but the ones with scabs on their back are getting worse. 3 of them now have what we guess are abscesses at the base of their tail. We were able to treat this by draining it and treating the top, and...
You were right. It came right off. The poor thing doesn't seem to be doing very well. I put neosporin on it. Dwkuska says there was a lot of puss in it. Poor thing. :S Should she be on antibiotics?
Just got the chicks medicated and inspected for mites etc. during the inspection I found this!
It makes me cringe and feel sick to my stomach just thinking of it. That is the poor chicks CLAW twisted UPSIDE DOWN! :S It looks very swollen and painful, but chick is not limping and running...
Is that what that is? OH thought it was scar tissue because its kind of hard to the touch. Will definitely give them a selection of play things. :) I have some Blukote from treating the head on my polish boy, should I continue treating the chicks?
Can't figure out how to edit to add :S
What do I put in there for their entertainment? They've got food, chick starter, and will have chick grit tomorrow when I can dig it out of the shed. :) I'd love it if they had something fun to play with.
There's a photo of it. I added a red lamp, and took a good look at this one while he was out. I didn't see anything wiggling anywhere, but I read online that mites can be tiny and hard to see. We got these chicks off of craigs list -- the owner met us at a fred meyer and gave them to us already...
We just got some 4 week old chicks and about half of them have scabs on their back close to the base of their tail. One of them is actively bleeding, the others are missing feathers and look calloused. Keeping them quarenteed right now and will take pictures tomorrow when it's light out. Is this...
We bought our birds for bug control, fertilizer and entertainment. As long as they still eat bugs they get to keep their heads. We did cull one rooster for extreme aggression, rehomed one for minor aggression, and one hen because all the others picked her. She's now a therapy bird for a disabled...
My polish crested rooster is a year and a half old now, and pretty much the best rooster in the whole world. The ladies love him, there's never a fight in the pen, and his crowing is blessedly limited.
Unfortuntely, Poof Head has the bald head that seems to frequent polish crested, and it...
Poofhead, who may be male. What ever the gender, I'm in love with him. He's so friendly. :)
Ms. Bagawk, being standoffish.
