Thanks everyone! Pictures as soon as I find my charger!
UPDATE: 2nd chick hatched! Oh so happy!!! Also a RIRxEE just waiting on the silkie..... who knows... but i am just glad any hatched.
Thanks so much! I've been running around the house, jumping up and down like crazy for the past few hours. It's just all so exciting. My very first hatch and I didn't even know if any were going to hatch at all, now 1 at least has hatched. I can't wait for the other ones.
Oh my! My little silkie, Strous, went broody 21 days ago.... We put 3 eggs under her, 1 of hers, black silkie hen x with White silkie roo, and 2 RIR hen x with possibly a EE roo.
We have 1 baby completely out, the RIRxEE. Its a beaut'. the other RIRxEE has made a small hole and i am just...
My broody just hatched 1/3 eggs and the chick keeps falling over the shell. Should I remove it or just let it be?
P.S. First hatch ever. and just this morning I was dreaming that the chicks hatched, and as the last chick was hatching in my dream, my sister screamed at me to "wake up the chicks...
We're so close in hatch date! Oct. 7th or 8th here! First experience with a broody. My little silkie is just ready to be a momma. She's got 2 of my RIR's eggs and 1 of her own under her. I'm just sooooo excited!
Thanks so much:)
How about handling the eggs? How long can they be out from under her? Ummm... Food wise, just the layer feed?
She's in a dog crate by herself.

I am getting rid of my EE, and the other roo is a little silkie who is a complete sweetie, and then we might get maybe 1 or 2 more hens. So the total would be 1 roo to about 3 or 4 hens.. we really want chicks later on, and are attached to fuego, the silkie.
I've got two roos and two hens, terrible, i know. For the past few months everything has been fine, but about a week ago i noticed that the dominant roo has been picking on the runt hen. He's a huge EE and she's a TINY Silkie. He bites her and plucks her feathers out. I also noticed today that...
