I could be wrong but I think if they were are ducklings she would have accepted them. But since she has real chicks to contrast she rejected the ducklings.
The thing is the ducklings were rubbing against the broody hen and she was making her happy noises and 30 or so minutes later she started pecking at them. Should I try again at night when she cant see?
I have a broody hen who hatch one egg and so I bought her a chick and 3 ducklings. She accepted the chick but the three ducklings she started to attack! Did I do something wrong? I've seen videos of hens raising ducks... Is this rare?
A have a few chickens that are missing feathers on their backs and vent area--is this molting or are they sick? I give them 17% protein feed, meal worms, acv in their water and plenty of greens. I also am on top of their coop, regularly cleaning and sprinkling DE. What am I doing wrong? Help!
Can I crush a salt water block a put small portions of it in the chicken waterer? They keep getting into the horse barn and are pecking at the block! I wonder if I gave them small quantities of it I could actually get them to stop trying to eat the block. I buy the Sturdy Steed candy apple...
This is what I've done so far. We have alot of snow here so I got 4x4 posts sitting on a 6x6 on the bottom. I used those Simpson metal anchor pieces to connect the 4x4 to the wood bottom. The thing is that the 4x4 is super unstable and sways all over the place. I dont know how I can fix this...
Thanks for the answer!! I was also concerned about the wood warping but you said it's npt common so that's good.
Do you happen to know how I would securely attach a 4x4 to a wood base? I used those metal anchor braces but the wood is literally dangling as it stands vertically... Help!
I am building a chicken run with a 6x6 wood base and 4x4 posts every 8 ft. How do I tie the vertical 4x4 to the horizontal 6x6 bottom plate? I used metal anchor plates but the 4x4s are wiggly and not stable at all. HELP!
Hey guys,
As Winter's approaching, I want to build a 16x16 chicken run for the chickens and ducks. I saw this beautiful run but I'm wondering: Can I build a 2x4 wall with the studs facing wide? I've attached this picture of a run I saw on youtube and the 2x4s seem to be facing the wrong way...
