    Peacock hasn’t lost feathers yet

This is our second year owning 2 peacocks. Last year, it seemed that both lost their train feathers at the same time. This year, the older one has completely lost all of his, but the younger one hasn’t even started yet. Is that normal? In January, the younger one got attacked or scared and lost...

    Peacock Sneezing

We have an 8 month hold peacock that I noticed sneezing. Anything I need to worry about or is there anything preventative I can do? They are free range so injecting anything would be difficult but we do provide the only water source so we can medicate that way. Thanks for any advice!

    Peahen sitting on nest or....

This is our first year with a peahen- we had two peacocks and last fall adopted a hem and her chick (who ended up being another male). They are free roaming and we woke this morning to no sign of her- we are assuming she’s sitting on a nest somewhere? Is this what happens- you just don’t see her...

    Peacock got attacked!

Hello! Wondering what people’s experience is of their free range peafowl getting attacked at night. We were awakened in the night by noise and squawking. One of our peacocks had a lot of his feathers ripped out and has lost his whole tail. No other blood or gashes that we can see, and whatever...

Peahen and her chick in the cold

Thanks all, so much. They are free roaming and do go to the barn during snow and rain. I was actually surprised to wake up Saturday and see she had left the barn in the snowstorm to roost in the tree. I do all feed and watering in the barn and the two males go in there in extreme weather but...

Peahen and her chick in the cold

We are having a few days of freezing (20 degrees) temperatures here in Idaho. I have a barn with a heat lamp in it but the newest hen and chick we brought home this summer have not gone to it. They are free range and sitting on the deck in the wind and cold! I’m afraid she doesn’t want to go to...

    Peacock losing crown feathers

Oh! I only have one hen. And she does seem to follow him around. Anything I need to worry about or will they work it out?

    Peacock losing crown feathers

Hello! One of our peacocks has lost all but a few of his crown feathers. Is this normal, like losing the other feathers? Seems like an odd time since his train has just started coming back. Thank you!!

    Normal Behavior?

Hello! I recently brought home a new hen and her chick- after several weeks they seem to be adjusting well. She has even started roosting in the same tree as one of the peacocks! My question is his behavior, however. I have noticed a couple of times early in the morning before they fly down he...

    Free Roam Training

Oh thank you! We have been wondering how to worm them as we were putting it in a water dish but it is too hard to monitor and measure and know if that is their only water source, etc. this is helpful and my husband will be so glad to know. He has been worried about it!!

    So tired of predators...

I am so sorry- that is demoralizing- and such a helpless feeling. 😔

    Free Roam Training

Oh thank you for the tips! I just recently started giving them mealworms and they do love them!! I didn’t know you could also give them scrambled eggs- that is great to know!!

    Enclosure maintenance

That’s beautiful! You don’t have a problem with other pests/predators sneaking through the holes at the gate?

    Enclosure maintenance

Curious what people use for the ground covering of their enclosures? We have grass that we have to mow. I feel like we should clean it regularly, too- with all the poop etc. Would love to know different ways people keep the areas clean. Thanks!
