Thank for the reply! I wasn't going to move them inside, but I think this weather isn't a "normal" circumstance. I'm to afraid the hen will eventually need to get off the nest and the chicks will follow her to their doom, especially since its supposed to rain for the next 48 hrs! So I have a...
Hi all, my broody's eggs are hatching today...my first ever hatching experiance. Can't begin to say how excited I am! Anyway, the weather is now crappy, it was gorgeous yesterday, but now 40 and raining. We might get a little snow tomorrow and will get to 32 tonight! I'm in Missouri, the broody...
Thank you for the response...
I thought that would be the answer. They have been opening up the other eggs (one a day) in the coop for the past 3 days or more. Today was the first day I saw them try to get the broodies eggs. Its a good thing I was there and interupted them, it could have been...
I need help!
I have a broody banty that is sitting on a clutch of 6 eggs for 7 days now. She is in a spacius pen/coop with 6 other chickens, 3 standaZrds and 3 other bantys. 3 days ago the banty eggs laid by the other girls were beng eaten, I researched here and started giving them there own...
Hello all,
I'm going to try hatching some eggs with my dominique banty for the first time! She has been broody and on the nest for 3 days. I'm buying her a doz fertilized eggs from a farm this afternoon, will probably give her 6-8 to lay on. My problem is that she is sitting in the very back...
So I went and picked up some chicks at estes hatchery, not the best experiance but anyhow.... I orderd 3 salmaon faverolles along with a few other chicks and I was so distracted by my kids lol that I never even noticed the chick didn't have feathers on their legs or 5 toes! I DID notice their...
I just got some chicks from Estes last friday. I am local so I called the day before, placed an order and then drove there to pick them up. I didn't have a problem with placing the order on the phone, I ordered 3 GLW, 3 salmon Faverolles, and 2 royal palm turkeys. I ordered pullets in the GLW...
I use regular straw..... I would use pine shavings but can't seem to find any. Go figure! The straw works just fine, although I think it would be too hard for brand new babies to get a footing in. I'm sure the shavings or pellets would do better with absorbing odors and liqued.
Wow haha no way! Thats such an adorable video! And here I am thinking I was asking a dumb question! Thanks so much guys, now I know I'm not going crazy when I hear sounds like that comeing from the brooder!
Lately i've been hearing this tiny crow like noise coming from the brooder. I know I have a few cockerels in my straight run batch of bantams, but at 2 1/2 weeks would the males be vocalizing differently already? I would guess not but this is a brand new sound and it's loud copared to their...
