Coyote took off with one of my free range chickens

Thanks for all the advice, y’all! We’ve been free ranging for a year and have all kinds of predators but this is the first chicken that has gotten killed or even attacked by one. They have a lot of big evergreen trees that they hide inside of and climb up. They’ve just recently gotten brave and...

Coyote took off with one of my free range chickens

I’ve always known there were coyotes out and about on my property. I can hear them yipping at night sometimes and have seen a few early morning. Yesterday, my husband and I were cleaning up after supper and looked outside and saw a head popped up in the pasture watching my free range chickens...

Will mama hen clean chick butts?

The deed is done. Chicks have clean and soon to be fluffy butts again. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Their mama hen and another broody hen were not happy.

Will mama hen clean chick butts?

Ok. Thank you! I didn't want to have to face the wrath of an angry mama hen if I didn't have to but I will for sure clean them up, just in case.

When first hatched they need 95 degrees the first week then a decrease in 5 degrees per week until fully feathered. My 6 week old chicks don't need their heat lamp anymore unless...

Will mama hen clean chick butts?

Hey y'all! Quick question. One of my silkies has 6 chicks that are about a week old. I checked on them this morning and two look like they have poop stuck to their tushies. I know that when I raised my chicks and acted as mama hen that I had to clean that nonsense. Question is, will my silky...

Giving 4 week old chicks to broody hen

Dang. It was worth a shot. I don't mind raising them. It's the integrating them into the flock that always makes me nervous. I always get a little too attached. Oh well. Can't be helped. Thanks y'all!

Giving 4 week old chicks to broody hen

Hey all! I was given 4 baby chicks that are about 4 weeks old. I have a silkie hen that has been broody about a week. We moved her to a secluded area away from the flock to sit. We would like to give the babies to this mama to raise but are they too old? I've googled around and found good...
