So I had a few that pipped wrong end this time. One hatched no worries, one I attempted to assist as he pipped but didn't break the membrane so I left it awhile then nicked the membrane. He was cheeping happily, all seemed OK but then next day no movement etc. I didn't break the egg open to see...
No ducks unfortunately =(
14 chicks, I think the other eggs were marked with an X which meant I didn't think they'd hatch. Folks will be super happy, and the kids are chuffed to have some new chicks to cuddle!
I have found somewhere I can get them here in Oz, but they are a fair bit pricier than a bulb BUT look better. Thanks!
Finally caught up on the thread. Another chick hatched overnight with two more unzipping this morning. Looks like the two that were unzipping yesterday have died, made no...
I'm a mean mum. I operate the washing machine (it's brand new and my baby LOL) but the kids (3, 5 and 7) have to do their own laundry plus help me with the family laundry. I do the towels and sheets as those are hard for the kids. Each kid puts their clothes in, I do the operating of the...
How many do you usually hatch out at a time?
I know, but man I was not prepared for how sad I was when that chick died. Good learning experience though!
Have you seen these? Are they any good?
My last hatch I had 6 successful chicks, but one died about two weeks later - I was devastated, it had been cold so we'd lit a fire, I'd checked on them before I went to bed and all was good but then they got hot and when I checked them through the...
Awesome, was hoping not to have to make another trip out there! I'm guessing they can huddle together if they need to, we do have a smaller little box in the brooder with hay etc. that I see them in sometimes. I think I need to figure out a better heating system, especially if these bulbs keep...
Bahahahahahahaha!!!
Another question - I've got 5 chicks over at the folks farm, still in a big brooder box in an enclosed machinery shed. They are just over 4 weeks old, have had the heat lamp still "technically" on but not very close to the box at all. I've had to use this one for my day old...
We are up to 8 chicks! I went out to take the girls to gymnastics and came back to some extra chicks than what were there when I left home, always a nice surprise!
She is so strong willed, trying to channel that stubbornness into a positive direction LOL.
OK great, they are all snuggled up on my heat pack at the moment but hopefully my heat lamp will arrive soon and I can whack that on them. I seem to have terrible luck with these things, my last one...
Thanks! My two oldest ones, we were doing a maternity shoot for a mare that is due end of this month/early November. She's carrying my dream horse in her tummy, when we got her pregnant last year the girls and I came up with the idea to do a maternity shoot for her. So we braided her mane and...
