EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I grew up with raising animals for food, hunting and fishing. Mom would tell us to go pick an old hen for chicken and dumplings. It was a Family project and guaranteed the chicken and dumplings were always very Tasty!

First, your littlest reminds me of Duckling when I say most anything lately. :lau
If you have the chicks in the house, any (gooseneck)lamp will do. As long as you have an older bulb (that actually gives off heat) you are good.

She is so strong willed, trying to channel that stubbornness into a positive direction LOL.

OK great, they are all snuggled up on my heat pack at the moment but hopefully my heat lamp will arrive soon and I can whack that on them. I seem to have terrible luck with these things, my last one also stopped working when I had adjusted in (turned it off to move it, when I turned it back on it just didn't work) and had to get a new globe for it. They aren't terribly expensive here ($12 a globe) but I hate wasting money especially on a globe I unboxed this morning and stopped working 5 minutes later!!!

You seen the ones on BYC? Some of them aren't much better. You almost have to turn over your first born & the title to your house & truck for some of them!

Tractor Supply is where I bought my grow out pens. These are great for babies, but not for full size hens. I paid $90 for this one (coupon for store opening). The extension on the right was $75. 20170319_163839.jpg

Again, this was great for the tiny babies. Once they got bigger, I had to buy a bigger one -

The larger was $350 I think. They have held up pretty well. They are relatively easy to clean. The larger one MIGHT work for 4 or 5 chickens. But the smaller one isn't good for anything but small babies.

Were they worth the money? Yes, because I didn't have the patience to build them myself.

PLease PLEase PLEAS PLEASE don't misconstrude my post...
My intentions were that I am at the wrong end of trying to make a buck... We are semi retired & looking for an easy way out, but we channel our direction azz backwards... We should market portable housing along with the chickens because the novelty out weights the reality of our direction?
My nose is not snooty... just searching.. :):celebrate
